Just a general question, but are these Greenpoint (mid river) waterfront towers mostly limited to the 400' range due to their lack of proximity to the subway?

If memory serves, it's because LIC and it's surroundings are within the flight path of LaGuardia.

^I believe the cap for buildings in LIC is 800 ft. There are multiple 600+ ft towers going up on the LIC waterfront right now. Those are closer to the subway, the 7 train, than the Greenpoint Landing towers are to the G train. The 7 train gets you to Grand Central in 1 stop whereas the G will take you up to LIC or down to Brooklyn. It's not quite as easy to get to Manhattan from Greenpoint.

There's a city bus that runs through Greenpoint, so the transit connections aren't horrible. There are also ferries along the river that some commuters take. I think the real issue is that the taller towers in LIC along the waterfront are primarily affordable housing while the ones at Greenpoint Landing are not.
