Broken up massing is becoming really pervasive in developments everywhere. I appreciate the effort to combat visual repetitiveness, in theory. In practice it all too often just ends up looking clunky and immature. Exhibit is a good example (although not the worst I've seen).

So, I respect your opinion, and your likes and dislikes, but as far as a valid architectural concept/vocabulary, the 'random' pattern on a residential building is honestly reflecting its use as a residential apartment building... if this was an office building, well then, I would have some issues... fwiw, I find the pattern rather pleasing and the white and blue is a nice nod to Greektown...

Just to clarify, it's not the 'massing' that is typically 'broken up', but rather the pattern-making on the elevations... in the case of Exhibit, it would appear to me that the pattern-making on the base is an attempt to reference the scale of buildings on the surrounding streets... as far as the tower, the introduction of the continuous strip windows would appear to be a reference to the eastern exposure and the views to the lake...

It definitely needs to be incorporated into whatever structure goes up.

Looks like we won't be getting a Hayden II after all but instead a 73 unit condo building

Wut street fronted with townhomes and not a concrete wall accented by frosted glass or hard to lease retail space?

Yes please.

Yeah I agree. Ground level townhomes are way better than a dead parking level

I'm very happy that 19 N May is no longer going to be a twin of that abomination

West Loop(not sure what buildings):

Gr333n:

I still think that people are not grasping how much these 300 foot tall towers are going to change the West Loop, River West, and South Loop.

Great pics BonoboZ. I enjoy watching the progress from your vantage point. Referring to your 300 ft comment, I was just thinking about the same thing the other day. As the parking lots dwindle and the available land becomes more scarce, I'd imagine they'll build even taller in the next cycle.

That's what I'm thinking too. These neighborhoods have kept changing with each cycle in terms of what is deemed as "acceptable" in terms of height. The West Loop used to despise anything over 6 floors. now people are flirting with 30-40 floor proposals throughout its boundaries.

As for my vantage point, I have a good news update for my fellow skyscraper nerds. I reached a nice little agreement with the boss and let's just say the views will continue

Bonobo isn't going anywhere after all!

^ Now someone just needs to tear down the Grant Park Hotel and replace it with a nice tall tower that completely blocks this one.

speaking of Ogden/Fulton area, does anyone know whats happening with the La Luce building? i remember there was the impending demolition a couple years ago, and the auction of its contents, and then nothing happened. im hoping its been saved somehow (or the non-existent "plan" of the new owner fell through), but curious what the deal is.
