The BOK Tower has an LED lit crown that has some programmable features.
Up until this last weekend, however, I don't believe the full capabilities have ever been on public display.

Saturday night (10-26-2019), a light show was performed in downtown OKC using the BOK Tower crown as the canvas.

Students from Oklahoma City University’s School of Theatre stage production classes held a concert (so to speak) called “Light & Sound on Steel & Glass".
21 original musical compositions by a student group at OCU were played, accompanied by LED shimmerings from the top of the BOK Tower.

More details at this article:
OCU THEATRE, MUSIC STUDENTS COMBINE TALENTS FOR DOWNTOWN LIGHT SHOW

One person posted some clips of the performance on instagram:

I can't embed instagram videos on this forum, but if you click on the image above, it will take you to the instagram post that contains several video clips of the performance.

This is certainly a first for this kind of thing in OKC.

At long last, Cajun Corner - the Cajun/Asian fusion seafood restaurant on 23rd Street - is open.

http://picpanzee.com/media/216470631...111_5985430332

Located in a thriving section of town called Uptown 23rd.

But that empty red box (photo from March) is now filled.

Their other location (this is the 2nd) is very popular, so I think they'll do great here.

As an addendum to the post above, right across the street from Cajun Corner (slightly west) is another recent project.

The corner building holding a Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts was built about a year ago.
Here's a quick construction timeline for that:

2-1-2018

I love the brick styling.
It's got the retro look, but naturally so -- not fake or forced.

This whole section of 23rd has really been active with renovations and new builds in the past 6 or 7 years.
All somewhat anchored by the Tower Theater, itself a great recent renovation.

Came across some wonderful drone shots of the park, convention center, and hotel area:

I wouldn't mind more night views like that last photo, because it allows a little peek at the interior work.

In the first photo, the well lit structure on the south end of the park (near Skydance Bridge) is the Event Pavilion.

https://twitter.com/ScissortailPark/...25549844140032

It's basically a coverd picnic area.
It can be rented out for private events.

One such use can about this last weekend when the park was holding a Movie In The Park event.
It was supposed to be on the great lawn, but the recent rains made that area too wet, so they moved it to the pavilion.

In the lot immediately adjacent to the Omni Hotel, work on the parking garage is picking up:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=44229&page=7

The skybridge from the Convention Center to the garage is already up.
Looks a little odd hanging out there by itself.

The Fairfield Inn is not open yet, but when it does, the north facing rooms will have a lovely view of the parking garage.

Oh well, still a great location for a hotel stay -- right next to the Convention Center and the park.
(great location, lousy north facing views)

Liberty Creek Village

Gardner Tanenbaum Holdings (GTH) is building a new apartment complex near I-240 and Sooner Road called Liberty Creek Village.
GTH has a number of ongoing projects, including The Forum at Lincoln Plaza.

This complex will be near Tinker Air Force Base which has seen an increase in work force the past few years.
For example, Tinker is building a new KC-46A Pegasus maintenance facility that is expected to bring over 1300 jobs to the area.
So the demand for nearby housing should be strong.

It's a large development.
516 units in 45 buildings on an 80 acre site.

Renderings:

https://libertycreekvillage.com/gallery/

The complex will be composed of 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments with attached garages and private entrances.

More info here:

Construction has already started on this.

Andrew G has taken another great downtown shot:

https://andrewgimage.com/

It definitely captures the look of the chilly, rainy, and misty weather we've been stuck with the past couple of weeks.

It's a bit of a bummer that the BancFirst Tower and First National Center are practically dark in the skyline.
But that's about to change as both are receiving renovations and will be nicely lit up at night when finished.

Pete at OKCTalk has posted some good recent aerials of the work at The Bradford House:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=42173&page=2

This boutique hotel is being built in an around an old historic apartment house at NW 38th and Classen.
In addition to the new structures (holding guest rooms), the new porch is coming along as well.

I couldn't find any recent pics of the interior, but they have posted one from prior to the renovation:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bbsy3iqgiIP/

It's a bit frustrating to me that I can't find any renderings for this project.
Their social media pages have lots of posts, but they mostly concern the hunt for furnishings and ideas for interior decor.

Well, let's have a look at some of those, anyway:

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2eWY6hBS0i/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BbCUN4KAbgO/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BfrQY-XASXu/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BcsVdddgwAV/

It's clear that the hotel is meant to have a luxurious, high end feel.
Lots of European -- particularly French -- influences in the decor and styling.

One more item of interest...

The developers have found all sorts of odds and ends still lying about in the basement.
Postcards, letters, photographs, city directories, old pieces of clothing and decorations...

http://picpanzee.com/media/201280666...713_3031719452

They intend to incorporate some of those items into the hotel.
Possibly some kind of story telling displays.

Very cool news for the Wheeler District.

A new three story commercial building is to be built just south of the Terminal building.

Renderings:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=21961&page=81

The first floor will be for retail and restaurant space.
The two floors above that for offices.

I'm not sure why they went with a 'quonset hut' shape, but it does make for an interesting and distinctive looking building.

Cathedral Of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help

This lovely church is located near NW 32nd & Western -- just south of Memorial Park, and a short distance from the Paseo District.
Built in 1924, it is receiving an extensive renovation.

Items being worked on:
  • Return tabernacle to original position behind the altar
  • Add artwork to the triumphal arch that honors the Church in Oklahoma
  • Add artwork, other elements to create shrine for Bl. Stanley Rother
  • Add new altar, ambo, cathedra and reredos
  • Marbleize columns
  • Paint and update all upper surfaces
  • Improve restrooms, confessionals

Construction started in May and is expected to wrap up very soon -- within a few weeks.

Love that barrel vault roof/quonset hut looking building. Didn't you say that site was a former airfield? Looks like they're paying homage to the vintage style of airport hangers.

Yeah, I agree -- I think it's a cool looking structure.

And yes, it must be a tribute to the airpark's past.
I don't know why that didn't occur to me when I first saw the renderings (headslap).

I did scrounge up some old photos of the airpark.

Here's an aerial from a 1948 newspaper article:

The Terminal building was flanked on both sides by curved roof hangars.
In fact, the one on the left is just about where the new building is to go -- though the orientation is different.

An aerial from 2002 shows more structures on the site.

A few years later, though, many of the buildings were demolished:

Some photos from 2005 show the state of the airpark shortly after the demolition:

The entrance

The Terminal building

There's still one hangar in the distance

That building is now gone as well.

All the photos above from this page:
http://www.airfields-freeman.com/OK/Airfields_OK_C.htm

By comparison, here are a couple of recent aerials of the Wheeler District:

https://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=21961&page=78

So yeah, the new commercial building is definitely paying homage to the site history.

I think this building is going to fit in with the historic buildings of Automobile Alley much better than I originally imagined.
It looked very sleek, but 'colder' in the renderings.
The actual building is looking a bit warmer and friendlier, to my eyes.

BancFirst Tower

Construction has commenced on this extensive renovation.
Fences went up a few weeks ago, and the stripping of the columns has been the first order of business.

For reference, here are a few pics taken back in early summer.

This is from the southeast corner looking west.
The Sheraton Hotel in the background had not yet received its new black & white color scheme.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/182843...67307/sizes/h/

This is a view of the northeast corner.
Along the east face, a covered patio area with seating will be built.

That's the Sante Fe Parking Garage to the left.
The horizontal strips were tacked onto the side about 4 years ago as decorative elements (I personally think they look hideous).

Another view along the east face (where the shaded patio will go), this time looking north.
The building in the background is the wonderful Skirvin Hotel.

The glass pyramid structure covers an entrance to the underground concourse.

The glass pyramids on the west side provide natural lighting to the concourse below and give street level pedestrians a view of the underground (including the Hot Tamale Grill).

The work on the outdoor plaza and patio areas should start shortly after (or possibly concurrently with) the column reskinning.
