The glass for 640 N Wells and the brick for 167 E Erie both look nice so far. Can't wait to see these guys when they're finished

I count about 50 floors + crown, so that should put it well above 700'+.

This is the same - or very similar - rendering that I saw about 4 or 5 months back. From what I've heard, Howard Hughes wants to move on this redevelopment and is actively showing this to prospective anchor tenants. It's all office, from what I understand (to BVic's question)......I too noticed a little echo of 191 N......don't know who the architect is, but wonder if it might be KPF.....

Isn't there a lawsuit stalling this thing?

Yeah last I heard the owners were in disagreement in what to do with the property. Definitely a proposal in deep limbo

^If it's less than 738 units, then it'll be less dense than the previous inception before there was a green line stop there.

Spyguy, any guess on the unit count?

Ickes

I like it. Who's the architect behind this, and will they actually be designing most/all of the buildings, or is this mostly placeholder type stuff, and individual building design tbd later??

Is that still unresolved?

The backstory was that Development Resources, Inc. (smaller local outfit) was claiming that Howard Hughes was cutting them out of the land deal, IIRC (reported in Crain's a year or two back I think)..........DRI's website is good for a hearty laugh or three for those interested to take a look (in some of their 'project' descriptions, they recount moving a bunch of furniture for a tenant into a new space, and also how their contractor shoveled snow by hand to speed-up a timeline......weird, weird stuff......

Antunovich Associates

According to reports, the redevelopment will encompass four phases totaling 867 units across the site’s three square blocks. The project’s first tranche is expected to include 319 units of mixed-income housing (94 public, 58 affordable rate, and 167 market rate) plus new retail and commercial space. Work is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2017.
So 100 more units than the previous development. MEH... Just bump it up to 1,000.

Let me take your attention for two seconds - 1411 S Michigan Ave was issued a building permit yesterday. That's the 199 unit, 15 story building --> http://chicago.curbed.com/2016/7/11/...partment-tower

There is virtually nothing on the east side of State Street. Plenty of room for density there after this development improves the immediate area.

But still...

And there are about 650 units in Hilliard currently.

^ I think there are plenty of chances to add a lot of density to that area. One step at a time
