I just dont see an amusement park making it out there. There have been 2 failures already and this will only be a third. The couple times I went to old park it was Empty, and I dont see enough locals going out there especially with the crime currently. As it is Blue Bayou in BR a long time established park is having issues getting employees there and have talked about not being able to open because of staffing. I don't see an amusement park in the East not having those same issues. It needs to be some sort of commerical space. The Brees plan does seem like that could go elsewhere in the city, but it's also a plan that does not require tons of visitors for it to work.

Just read that Louis Armstrong New Orleans international airport will play a huge role in the new start up airline Breeze Airways. This is awesome news hope we can finally become a real focus city or Hub for a airline.

“From a recent interview with founder David Neeleman, conducted by Inc. magazine, we now know that:

Tampa-Charleston will be Breeze’s first route
It’ll initially have 49 non-stop routes
15 cities will be served to begin with – including Tampa and Charleston, but also Nashville, New Orleans, and Pittsburgh
Its initial focus will mainly be on the Rust Belt to the Sun Belt
It will have three fare classes and seating: Nice, Nicer, and Nicest”

I wouldn't take goings on at Blue Bayou as proof of the industry though. The owner is notorious for being cheap, and they rarely keep employees for more than a summer because they pay as little as possible. With it being seasonal jobs, they're able to pay less than minimum wage, and they do in almost all cases. I tend to agree with you it's hard to make a great water park work here with that one so nearby, and I'm not sure an amusement park is really going to work out there, as much as I would personally love one in New Orleans. But it's probably not because of staffing issues. As long as they pay decent wages, I'm sure they could keep staff.

I would say that staffing would not be the issue as much as competition from both Blue Bauou as well as the park in Mississippi. We actually go to the one in Mississippi more than Batpn Rouge. But the fact that two Parks have failed already in that space plus the crime factor associated with that area right now will make it a hard break even with the need to pay competitive wages.

As for the Breeze expansion, I hold my breath of us being a focus city as that was a rumor when JetBlue started. We were actually one of their first destinations and in fact I flew them consistently for a while when living in NY, but look how long it took for the Boston and FLL flights. Remember this is the same leadership of JetBlue when it started. Maybe I'm wrong but I dont see more than a few flights for a while.

Correct me if im wrong here but isnt Breezes whole business model point to point and not hub n spoke? I expect a few flights from them though since they seem to be wanting to connect smaller markets in the east of the country with cities like nashville and new orleans.. cities that are bigger destinations but not hubs.

Well, Breeze Airways is coming to MSY in a big way!

Official Press Release from Louisiana Economic Development:
https://www.opportunitylouisiana.com...-operations-21

10 routes from Breeze and 261 jobs at the MSY base. CHS, OKC, TUL, RIC, ORF, XNA, HSV, SDF will be served Th/Fr/Su/Mo; CAK will be Th/Su and CMH Fr/Mo.

Definitely the biggest announcement at MSY since British Airways! With the 4 weekly schedule on most routes, this is much more useful for markets with some business travel. In fact that seems to be a theme with these routes: Oil and Gas at TUL/OKC, Shipping in Norfolk, Banking in Richmond, Space in Huntsville, Food in Louisville (e.g. Sazerac), etc.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. I am really excited that MSY is one of their 4 operations Hubs. I can definitely see connection to international destinations from NOLA due to our geographical location compared to the other 3 hubs for breeze. The Richmond | Huntsville | Norfolk connections are exciting as well especially with the future Space campus development in New Orleans East along with the metro area positioning itself as a distribution hub. This is truly great news!

And we finally out did Nashville and Austin for a chance

Not sure how true this is, but heard some interest from space x in the michoid facility area to manufacture rockets. To be honest , it makes much better logistical sense for them to be there. It splits the difference between boca chica and cape Canaveral . Existing infrastructure there too . Plus space x is already building a new drone ship in port fouchon .really not convenient for them to be in hawthorne , California

I mean, it makes sense for HQ because SoCal has the greatest concentration of aerospace engineering talent. Same reason tech companies go to the Bay Area even though it's expensive and virtually impossible to do business.

Manufacturing is different though, they expect to train most of their workers anyway and they can usually persuade a few talented engineers to move wherever and run things. The more important factors are proximity to their suppliers, and infrastructure. If you're building rockets then you need to move them, which means water transport - they're too big for rail or trucking. So the Intracoastal is a big plus for Michoud.

This absolutely makes sense. We have a ton of experienced people involved in literal rocket science at both Michoud and Stennis. My office just completed providing weather support for the NASA SLS rocket. There are plans to build another 13 of those rockets at Michoud if the test flight goes well this Fall. They are only using a small portion of the facility to build the SLS, so there is plenty of room for Space X there.

Also, great news about Breeze Airways. I think they will find success here and we are a natural connecting point for international service when that begins. They will be operating out of Concourse A, so they will already be using the international gates.

I guess if they find really quick success , which given the hassles of connecting these days I think they will, is it easy for the airport to add on to a for more gates for them?
