Yeah, me too. It's what they were contractually obligated to announce ... so, you know, it'll be the calendar until it isn't, just like in 2020. I've been hearing for a few weeks that Australia is already in doubt, at least as the opener, and so are all the races in the Americas. BTW, I revealed that Jeddah, Saudi Arabia street race back in July (through the same source that told me about Oz & the Americas).

Canadian GP boss Dumontier came out already admitting publicly that his GP is in danger, despite being on the calendar. Interesting that he would do so, esp so soon after the calendar was released. He said they aren't even going to put tickets on sale until next year at the earliest.

BTW, this is the provisional calendar. It's not official until the WMSC ratifies it.

I wish they would drop Azerbaijan and bring India back. That was a good track. Have you heard if there is going to be any more work done to the track surface before the race at COTA?

I like Baku a lot and liked the India Buddh circuit as well. India isn't likely coming back though, due to tax reasons. IIRC they wanted to tax the drivers and teams, and tax the cars and equipment as imports or some such nonsense. Crazy.

I haven't heard about any more work being done at COTA since they ground down bumps and resurfaced about 40% of the circuit. Then they resurfaced much of that new surface two more times within the next few months ... because it was already cracking and getting bumpy again, which we predicted. Contrary to what Epstein claimed they'd do, they never addressed the inadequacy of the original drainage system which - in combination with the shitty soil conditions - causes this mess. From turn 3 to turn 11 has never been resurfaced (except around turn 10, after the 2019 F1 fiasco), which is weird, because it's really bad. That stretch could definitely use some big repairs, but I don't see it happening after COTA missing a whole season of races, concerts, soccer, and other events, and with the F1 contract still not renewed and ending after 2021. MotoGP's contract ends after 2022.

Been hearing a rumor that COTA is changing ownership soon, possibly being sold to a real estate company. Dunno which one, or if it's even true...

Welp. Not surprising ...

MotoGP: Two races in Qatar and one in Portimão will now open the season, with the Argentina and Americas GPs postponed. No new USA or Argentina dates have been set.

It’s just too early for the US, sadly. Especially that usual mid spring timeframe.

Miami did get a 10 year deal to host a F1 race:

Heard an advert this morning on the radio about possible legislation to allow 4 total Texas casinos, one each in DFW, Houston, S.A and ATX. Somewhere near COTA would work for ATX possibly? Would be a billion dollar investment.

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/03...ports-betting/

"The proposals would create special casino licenses for four "destination resorts" in the state's four largest metropolitan areas: Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. At the same time, it would establish a Texas Gaming Commission to regulate the casinos, tax table games and slot machines and separately legalize sports betting."

...."The legislation is consistent with the vision that Las Vegas Sands has laid out for casinos in Texas: a limited number of licenses for mixed-use "destination resorts" in the state's biggest population centers, with a high minimum investment intended to attract only the best operators. To that end, the legislation calls for a land and development investment of at least $2 billion in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, as well as $1 billion for San Antonio and Austin."

The current state leadership has been adamant in its opposition to casinos, last I read.
Pretty foolish, IMO, letting all that Texas cash flow to Louisiana & Oklahoma.

I'm torn on the gambling part. I know folks who have thrown their lives away due to gambling addictions. Obviously that's not everyone. I personally don't like it, but I know others who enjoy it.

Gambling has been floated in Texas going back to the 80s. I don't expect it to happen, but as long as they make it a resort-ish thing on the outskirts of town I am ambivalent towards it and may partake once in a blue moon. Craps is fun.

Just don't put it anywhere near downtown.

^^^Misleading lead.

COTA still has their race scheduled for October 24. This was an opportunity to host two races in a calendar year - as a replacement for Singapore and their own time slot for the GPoA.

And "passed over for Istanbul" is a bit misleading as the Turkish GP was already missed earlier this season. Its more like Austin didn't get a 2nd race and this other race just moved its calendar date back.

In reality Austria wound up with 2 races so far and the rest has just been confusing date shuffling. That said, Austin may still have the chance for a 2nd race if any other dates get cancelled which they likely will.

To that point, the Australia event (planned for November 21) was cancelled as of yesterday. Changes keep popping up.
