Arrow SEATTLE | 8th and Pine | 550 FT | 48 FLOORS

Is Seattle getting another condo tower?

Do you guys remember the Seattle condo building AVA (8th and Pine) that was highly marketed prior to the great recession? Back in 2008, there were plans for a condo/hotel that would soar above the neighboring towers in the Retail District of Downtown Seattle.

From what we gather, the developer (Fana Group) has re-invented the plans to deliver a 48 story hotel/residential tower featuring 395 units, 178 hotel rooms and nearly 8,000sf of retail. This is is exciting news but also will have an impact on multiple buildings in the surrounding neighborhood – including Olive 8 condos.

The building will sit at 8th and Pine in the retail district. Just 1 block from Pacific Place and steps away from the new Washington State Convention Center addition. The early design guidance for the Downtown Design Review Board is set for November 1st.

The architect for the new tower is Weber Thompson. Early highlights of the project include:

Residential amenity space on the top floor
Beautifully designed rooftop terrace
Ground level retail with overhead protection for the weather
Two lobbies – one for the hotel and one for the residences

8th and Pine Proposal Picks Up Where AVA left Off
Quote:
Rising on the site of a 2007 proposal known as AVA, the long-stalled development plans for the corner of 8th Avenue and Pine Street in downtown Seattle have since given way to a new project known as 8th and Pine, a 48-storey hotel and residence to be designed by Weber Thompson for the Fana Group.

From the Weber Thompson (architecture firm) teaser for this development. Looks like it had a redesign and a height cut at 445 ft and 39 floors respectively.

Not a fan of the new design.

8th & Pine
Seattle, WA
Project Information
445 ft mixed-use tower with 39 stories located a block from Seattle’s convention center
244 condominium units, average 1,080 sf per unit.
190 hotel suites
622,225 gsf with 9,351 sf retail space
Registered to pursue LEED certification

Manhattan energy and Seattle sensibility converge in this sleek, modern hotel/condo tower. Working with two disparate uses, the design demonstrates that they can be combined into a harmonious, expressive composition that celebrates urban living.

The tower is set back from the street above the podium, responding to the light rail tunnel below and providing open space for a lush garden terrace. This setback creates a scale element to provide visual relief from the density of a newly emerging and very densely packed neighborhood. A generously landscaped entry plaza creates a powerful sense of arrival and defines the gateway corner.

Separate and distinct entries are provided for the hotel and residences, with easy access to all of the amenities associated with a four star hotel. The residences feature ceiling heights ranging from 9.5 ft to more than 12 ft, a generous balcony or solarium and flexible floor plans.

Why are you posting a rendering and news from 2007?

This 2007 article is password protected but it has the same image and concept you're talking about. http://www.djc.com/news/search.html?...et&id=11193611
