I'd have loved to have patronized an establishment called The Hangover.

And farther out on Beverly...

http://panoramio.com
This shot is labeled as "Beverly & La Cienega"... don't think I've ever run across a pic of this
building before. Which corner of that interesection might it have been on? Did it bequeath
its curves to the Beverly Center?

My guess would be the southeast corner, where the Beverly Connection is now. Something about the way the sky/lighting looks. The funny thing is, there's a drugstore on that corner today, at the Beverly Connection. I wanna say it even had a Rexall sign back in the 90s. But I could be wrong.

The building is still there, on the southeast corner. It's now Long's Drug/CVS.

Beverly Center replaced . . . a pony ride. And, of course, Tail O' The Pup.

sopas_ej is correct...this is the southeast corner of Beverly Blvd. & La Cienega.
My first job in Los Angeles was at the Beverly Center.
I would often go across the street to the Rexall's. It reminded me of the drug stores in the midwest (I was somewhat homesick).

If I remember correctly there was a gas station across the street on the northeast corner.
Adjacent to the gas station was the very popular under 21 club called 'The Odyssey'.
On the northwest side of Beverly Blvd. & La Cienega was 'Tail of the Pup' which I frequented for lunch (before it was moved a block west).

The original 'Ma Maison' restaurant was located in this area along Beverly Blvd.
Further to the west at 9039 Beverly Blvd. was the VERY famous 'Chasen's' restaurant.

To gsjansen;

Thank you very much for sharing your latest pics: what a fantastic pictures!

-The aerial view of the Statler Hotel in 1953: no Harbor Freeway, yet to be built...And the beautifull Richfield Tower is still there! And watching at the pic, it seems to me an unrecognizable part of Downtown.

-Undated image of Bunker Hill (circa 1964) Man, let me say this in correct english: f*****g great!!! For the very first time, we can see a color picture of the area after the CRA bulldozers. It's amazing, the retaining wall around the hill (was it next Hope St????) and the remaining residences on Grand... Could it be Bunker Hill Avenue?
Also 3rd st tunnel and 4th st viaduct are cleary seen. Like I said, the pic is awesome and its main title could have been something like... 'On any given moment, anything can happen here', meaning all the vacant lots around.

Finally, these folks barely allow us to see what it could be a total color panorama of Bunker Hill about to be vanished. The last pic, the one you named 'Planning for a better tomorow' it's overwhelming... was it really a better tomorow?

And to come to and end: thanks again for your pics. Terrific work!

I've been wondering about that; could what's there now be the original building, just massively remodeled? The proportions and its position on the site look about right. I do recall in the late 90s or early 00s that the Beverly Connection shopping center was remodeled or revamped, and there was some type of construction going on at this building; I'm not sure if it was remodeled yet again or if the building was demolished and a new one put up.

Yes, it's pretty easy to track on historicaerials.com. It does look like they filled in four light courts at one point; this was probably a big medical office building. The current Bing birds-eye photos show the northeast quadrant completely demolished, presumably being rebuilt.

Why yes it is, with the Beverly Center to its right, back when it was its original dung brown color. In my late teens I used to frequent the Beverly Center, just because I thought it was a great place to people-watch at the time. During that period, I once saw Cher coming out of a store called The Mod Hatter there. And one time, while my friend and I were going down the escalators to get to my car, we spotted Shirley Jones ahead of us. I think she must've overheard one of us say "Isn't that Shirley Jones?" because then she started looking back at us and walking faster; maybe she thought we were following her? We weren't following her, she just happened to park on the same level that we did and she was walking ahead of us. She hurried into her dark-colored Mercedes and fishtailed out of the exit.

Thanks for the 'ethereal tour' GaylordWilshire. lol I loved it!

It's funny sopas_ej....during my job at the Beverly Center I served Cher. Perhaps it was on the same day you saw her.
________

I have to correct one thing in my earlier post.
The original Ma Maison was on Melrose Avenue in a converted house (I thought it was on Beverly Blvd)
While searching for more information I learned that Ma Maison had an UNLISTED reservation number!!

It's possible, ethereal.

Hmm, the Tail O' the Pup. I don't think it exists anymore, I remember driving down San Vicente some years ago and it was gone. I'm not often in that part of town anymore, so I thought maybe I just forgot its exact location, but I distinctly remember a now fenced-off parking lot where I'm very sure it used to be (west side of San Vicente, north of Beverly). I would think that it would've been a big deal and made the local news if it were knocked down or something, I remember the big deal that was made about it when it was moved. So I guess it's now just a part of that storied list of "Things That Aren't There Anymore" in Los Angeles?
