If you're really interested in the history, design, and future of Jackson Square I definitely recommend reading the following article:

For those that don't follow Vintage Hamilton on Facebook, can anyone guess where this is? The year is 1966.

Catharine St. south of Main? The building with the "Bunton Gillies" sign (if that's what it actually says, could be "Burton"?) is still there - Tailgate Charlies on the lower floor - as is the hip-roofed building on what would be the southwest corner of Catharine and Jackson (now Claudio's Ristorante)

That big industrial building on the south side of Jackson would make for an amazing restoration today. As would the one on the left (east side) of Catharine.

^Wow! Never seen that one before.

It looks like Bowen - runs north-south between Main and Jackson one block east of John.

Very interesting that that warehouse used to have windows in the rear. I believe they've been filled in.

Well if they hadn't built the 'super block' they'd have probably still levelled a bunch building new office buildings and parking spaces. Sadly.

I'm happy to mourn the areas that led to John and Wilson, that's a useless bit of destruction. Jackson Square however I think is an improvement on what was there before. It took the previous density, increased it, and protected the pedestrian environment from the encroachment of the automobile.

Okay, why didn't all the newer posts show up before?

That big industrial building was the Dare cookie factory. They tore it down right after they left town.

Yes. Directly across from the Tim Hortons and is now a parking lot.

Agh all the factory buildings in that previous shot would have been amazing to still have around today. I'll never look at a Dare cookie the same way again.

^I'd guess that photo was taken some time in the late 70s - 1979? Might be a bit off, however.

^Interesting shot. Mid-70s I guess. Maybe a little earlier...
