Marquam Hill hospital project not set yet
By: Chuck Slothower in Architecture and Engineering May 3, 2019 12:22 pm

Designers of a proposed 14-story hospital tower at Oregon Health and Science University have work to do to meet city guidelines, design commissioners said.

The tower’s ground floor makes little concession to the pedestrian realm and to interaction with surrounding streets and buildings, commissioners said.

The hearing Thursday was an initial design advice meeting for the project. The team will return for a second meeting with the Portland Design Commission on June 27.

OHSU proposes to build the 580-foot tower on its Marquam Hill campus adjacent to the existing Elks Children’s Eye Clinic on Southwest Campus Drive. The design is from NBBJ, a Seattle-based architecture firm. The project envisions three sky-bridges connecting to existing buildings and approximately 190 additional parking spaces.

Addendum to the DJC article:

Quote:
Correction: The proposed building would top out at approximately 580 feet above sea level, the limit according to Marquam Hill Plan District rules in city code. An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the building would be 580 feet tall.

Looks pretty good to me. I love Marquam Hill with OHSU and the other hospitals. It's just so great visually. Pill Hill and the Tilikum are likely my favorite structures in Portland...even though picking an entire hospital complex is cheating a bit.

OHSU Hospital will add 184 beds in major expansion
An expansion to OHSU Hospital, shown in an artist's rendering, will add 184 new inpatient beds on Marquam Hill

Oregon Health & Science University will launch a $650 million expansion of its hospital this spring that will increase its total beds by about a third.

The 530,000 square feet of new space will come in a dramatic, U-shaped building located between the Casey Eye Institute and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on OHSU’s Marquam Hill campus. The new space will allow for 184 new inpatient beds, most of which will be adult surgical beds.

I’m not sure when this is beginning, but this is a big project. Searching the Fed budget online, looks like this got $503M for construction this year.

Interesting, I hadn't heard about the VA update. From the link shared by uncommon.name, this is definitly the new OHSU hospital expansion.
