The Moes, lol. But seriously, how many other, much larger projects have started AND finished since this began, like Maple? I'd put money on the Cogswell interchange redevelopment and Third harbour crossing beating this one to completion!

Why are the floors not even with the windows? Is the entrance going to be in the back? It looks very odd.

The building is going to have a light well behind the front facade. I think the entrance is in the front.

You are right, pblaauw. In essence, the developer is building five floors inside a four-storey building. To repeat an earlier post:

It doesn't seem like a particularly attractive prospect to me. Back units on the north side will have small windows on one side while for units on the south side the only access to natural light will be via a "light well". Only the top floor would appear to have "normal" window coverage.

North wall cross-section:

No surprise this is shaping up to be a debacle. The facade should have been knocked down.

I know we joke about the Five Moes, but I'm astounded this one is still not completed. What's it been since they started, 7years now?

I left Halifax in 1989 and the NFB Building was a shell even back then!!

I think it is more like 4 years since the construction start. That is still a very long time for a project of this size and it is not done yet. I wonder how long it will be before the facade is restored and glass is put in, etc.?

The other thing that comes to mind regarding this is that they say the ground floor will be retail. How are they going to make that level accessible? I seem to recall a popular set of several stone steps that people often used to sit on inset int the building at the Barrington entrance. Hard to see how someone in a wheelchair would be able to get in or out.

The light well is in the back of the building. The floors will line up with the windows on the front. Floors 5, 6 and 6 are all in the steel frame on top.

Here are additional architectural drawings. They show clearly that the existing windows will not line up with levels 2, 3 and 4. (They couldn't: the former building had only three stories below the roofline.

The drawings also show an accessible entrance ramp on the north side of the building.

How high were the ceilings in the old NFB building, as compared to whatever this one is going to be called?

it's not unusual for windows and floors not to line up. My 1905 house has a midfloor landing window, but of course this is on the side of the house, interesting to see how they do this, could be very neat
