Not really about soccer in Canada but I guess he will play some games here:

News today is that Lionel Messi will be joining Miami of MLS. Will also have a one-third ownership share in the club.

That's a big deal if true. He's still well among the best forwards in the game.

Charles Andreas Brym returns to the team after a good year in 2nd division Holland where his Eindhoven club came close to promotion to the Eredivisie. He was third in team scoring and 30th in the league.

Raheem Edwards has had a good season so far for the LA Galaxy (2nd in assists in MLS) and his versatility will be an asset.

Seventeen year old Luca Koleosho (aka Luca Warrick) makes his first appearance for the NT. He also made his first appearance for Espanyol in La Liga so Herdman would like to have a closer look at him. As a dual, he is also on the USMNT radar.

Luca Koleosho hasn't closed the door on USMNT despite Canada call up - source
Sam Marsden Moises Llorens espn.com May 26 2022

Espanyol forward Luca Koleosho has accepted a call up from Canada but has not closed the door on representing the United States men's national team, a source familiar with the situation has told ESPN.

Koleosho, 17, became the youngest American-born player to debut in LaLiga last Sunday when he came on as a substitute in Espanyol's season-ending goalless draw at Granada.

Canada named him in their 25-man squad on Wednesday for June's now-cancelled friendly against Iran and Nations League matches against Curacao and Honduras.

However, the call-up does not mean Koleosho has definitively committed his international future to Canada, with a source telling ESPN a decision is likely to be delayed until after June's camp.

Koleosho was born in Connecticut to a Nigerian father and an Italian-Canadian mother, so he has a myriad of options when it comes to selecting a national team to play for.

He has been involved with U.S. youth teams in the past and has also previously been called up for a training camp with Canada Under-20s. This week's selection is his first senior call-up for any country.

Players can switch if they have played no more than three competitive matches at senior level prior to them turning 21 but they have to wait two years until after the last appearance.

If a player appears in a World Cup finals match or continental finals such as the European Championship then they become ineligible to change their national side.

Both Canada and the USMNT have qualified for the World Cup later this year, which begins in Qatar in November.

Koleosho, who spent four years playing for Manhattan Kickers, has been in Spain since 2016. He spent four years with Reus before joining Barcelona-based Espanyol in 2020.

This past season has primarily been spent with Espanyol's U19 team, who he helped reach the Copa del Rey Juvenil final, where they lost to Real Madrid, but he has also appeared for the B team in the Spanish fourth division.

He was also part of the first team for the final game of the season, coming on for the final few minutes of the draw at Granada as a sign of how highly rated he is within the Catalan club.

The tug-of-war for Koleosho is the latest the USMNT have found themselves in recently having previously won the battles for Sergino Dest, Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman with the Netherlands, Mexico and Germany respectively.

^ not too surprising the 'Friendly' game between Iran and Canada was cancelled, considering almost a hundred Canadians died in that Flight PS752 shot down by Iran.

Apparently the $ half million that Soccer Canada was going to pay Iran may go to an Ukraine - Canada friendly game instead and the money may go to support Ukrainian families affected by war.

No word yet on if that money was part of the $3 Million that Soccer Canada got from the Feds was given to Iran.

"Ralph Goodale, Canada's high commissioner to the United Kingdom, added his voice Wednesday to the rising chorus of disapproval.

“This behaviour by Canada Soccer is repugnant. It calls into question both the competence and the values of the organization,” he tweeted.

In March 2020, Goodale became a special adviser to the PM “for Canada's response to Iran's shooting down of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752.”"

Maybe he should have questioned the competence of the government officials who would have issued visas to the Iranians before Trudeau opened his gob.

Check out NT keeper Milan Borjan as he runs from emerald green to fiery red as his club team Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) become champions of Serbia for the 5th time in a row.

Congratulations to Richie Laryea and Nottingham Forest for their promotion to the Premiership. Richie didn't see much playing time in the run for promotion, and the coach, not wanting to tinker with the win streak. But he might be aided in the fact that the Premiership allows five substitutions vs the Championship's three and that hopefully will help him make his breakthrough.

I'm jealous. Which games did you get tickets for?

I must admit, the Three Lions is who I'm really following with Canada a close 2nd.

Some potential bad news. Looks like the option for Stephen Eustaquio may not be picked up by Portugal leader Porto which would likely mean a return to his former club Paços de Ferreira.
