I wonder if there were a couple of final alterations to the design here.

1) the tower seems to be the originally reported height of 985ft, compared to the Spiral, which is 1041ft.
2) I wonder if those open windows are a tenant amenity. The only other open space would be atop the podium, which wouldn't cut it for such a dense and "elite" office building, especially with the innovative competition next door having outdoor space on every single floor.

In regards to the second one, the building is still under construction, so I'd wait to see what's going on there.

But that 985 ft height is believed to be the main roof, and not the mechanical penthouse bulkhead, which would be at 1,011 ft.

I went back to check, and nothing has changed. That mechanical bulkhead is what's considered the 79th floor of the building. (The top floor of 58 is actually the 78th floor). We do know that there have been two versions of the crown.

As far as the Spiral goes, it's that one that is more in question.

It is a pity that our "factories" are empty during quarantine. I really miss my building.

Safety before everything. These buildings will outlive us all.

According to the SSC thread the final height is 981 or 299 meters, that looks much more correct in comparison to its neighbors

Yes, it seems there were some last minute changes including the height. CTBUH reported the new height, they probably have seen up to date documents. Foster's website also has listed the building at 291m for some time - that's probably the roof slab.

It helps kill the plateau effect a little in the immediate area I guess?

Looks 299, 291 may be slab or occupied height

291m is the slab height, you can see the parapet and mechanical penthouse extend approximately two storeys above it which matches the extra 8 metres up to 299m. Why wouldn't you want eight extra metres of height?
