Good to get confirmation but this is old news.

According to Ori on Facebook there will be a Lidl built in the old Asian Plaza at 16th and Carpenter.

This is in addition to the Aldi coming further down Washington will really give this area a lot of supermarket options.

Also continued rumors about the Whole Foods moving from South St to Broad St eventually. Ideal scenario is for a Trader Joes to replace the Whole Foods on South.

I agree, one of my biggest gripes with Philly is the lack of accessible, quality, grocery options. Even Society Hill barely has one gorcery store, thats shameful!!!!
Giant is taking 40,000 sqft it's a full size Giant.

Agreed. More grocery density is great for everyone!

A lidl at 16th? Isn't Ori also putting an aldi at 22ndnand Washington (wish it was trader Joe's)? Then there's the heirloom market at 23rd and Bainbridge which is nice, though i'm bummed they stopped carrying high street on market bread.

Not complaining about all the grocery options but it's too bad it isn't more distributed around.

Ori is not involved with the Lidl just sharing info.

Yes an Aldi is going into one of his projects on 22/Washington.

My best bet for a TJs is the WF space on South St

The best part about this project is that they kept the mature street trees. Lincoln Square, which is a great project for that area, chopped all of their street trees on Broad Street down. I wish Philly had NYC regulations/fines for keeping street trees.

Curious as to what the steel girders are outside of the cement walls. Almost look like a modern flying buttress, but it takes up most of the sidewalk. Surely those are temporary?

They're temporary, it's a scaffold shed to use for sidewalk protection and build scaffold on top for the façade work.

Agreed! The site is so huge that it's hard to capture in pictures at street level.

I feel like this project will have a similar affect to the Piazza Terminal project in Northern Liberties. Adding a large cohesive next level development to the area.

For sure. I hope this project and the myriad of infill west of broad finally allow a shot in the art of point breeze and allow it to have a vibrant commercial corridor and neighborhood feel like Passyunk sq and Hawthorne.

Yeah, the dearth of retail when I lived there in 2016-17 was frustrating. Closer to the north end and broad, you have Lincoln square filling a lot of gaps. The lack of commercial zoning outside of PB ave (also should be zoned denser) has been holding it back for a long time
