To my knowledge there is no official date yet. This year's projected opening was postponed earlier in the year due to finanical disputes between all the parties involved.

A bunch of new beams have been delivered to the Transit Center site. They are white which makes me think that they are part of the exposed super structure. That would be nice to see it begin to "fly"

On the Oculus EarthCam camera they have/are clearing a large area on the first slab they poured on August 6th and the wooden unloading dock... Hopefully we are getting the crawler crane that has been rumored about [I don't think an 18000 would fit] or at least some big steel. Also they have started putting up the wooden forms for concrete at the East end. And, I have a feeling that the massive steel inside the oculus is for the horizontal bases of the flying ribs at the intermediate level. They have removed most of the welding tents at the Western end and removed all material from under the Southern columns, including the removal of temporary bracing weeks ago. The huge rectangular box beams look to be thinner metal components with wood sandwiched between them and the shadows on the KPI cam make them appear to be four to a stack, two components tall and two long.

They look more like precast concrete sections, possibly for the mezzanine levels on either side of the oculus.

Well, whatever they are, the biggest one disappeared overnight while the earthcam was down. On the "19:31:22 - 24 August 2012" slide on the '7 WTC' KPI cam it's there. On the "7:56:40 - 25 August 2012" slide it's gone and nothing looks different except the Western crane is slewed a few degrees counterclockwise. Only thing I can think of is that maybe it is part of the cantilevers intermediate level base and it is hidden by the steel above. there is a cherry picker with it's basket raised but obscured by the above steel.

Will people be able to drive on Fulton St. and Greenwich street or will you only be able to walk on it?

"Something there is that doesn't love a wall..." (Robert Frost).

It will be interesting to see how they accommodate the 8' to 10' variance in the elevation between the utility vault (now being dismantled) and the deck recently poured on the north side of the oculus. There seems to be no movement to date to dismantle that wall just west of the utility vault.

I wonder what they are doing there that they feel a need to hide from our prying eyes. They even put tar paper on the roofs, so I guess those little houses are going to be around for a while. At least they haven't put shingles on them -- yet.

^^Didn't you know the unfinished part of the memorial is being turned into housing space until there is enough money to complete it?

Interesting article. Pretty crazy that it costs 60 million a year to run.

I remember watching a documentary about the memorial once. Can't remember which one, though. A guy said that the pools are slightly smaller than the dimensions of the original towers, and that this basically meant that when standing by the bronze panels of the pools, you would actually be inside the towers (if they had still been there, of course).

Is this true? I have been trying to find out what the exact dimensions of the pools are, but "slightly smaller" is the only answer I have found.

Yes, that's true. They're 1/16th smaller

It is a separate development, but it's the opposite end (or exit) of the new concourse, it was only mentioned in that respect. But you can see it here...
