This project will be taking off shortly. I've seen site plans in recent days, though I'm not sure if the building will imitate the renderings above.

Agreed. The design doesn't match the adjacent buildings but maybe this will allow for Blanchard to break ground for a modern development.

Great that we are seeing so many new projects in the core.
Too bad that some of lower inner-city seems to be going in the opposite direction:
Scotia Bank at King near Sherman recently closed, now No Frills, I'm told Scotia Bank at James and Burlington Street is next.

The traffic management plan was approved but I don't know its current status.

I have been informed that this building will act as the new Effort Trust head office building for Hamilton, consolidating several smaller offices around the city.

personally I don't like it - people come to a downtown to see architecture - what's so special about glass? Since when has it become that all new buildings have to be devoid of any character whatsoever? There are only so many glass buildings one can view until they become turned off architecture forever - we had so many fancy buildings and such talent and it just feels like every new building is slowly stripping that out of hamilton..

People also come downtown to work, shop, eat, and do many other things in and around buildings, including the people of Effort Trust whom I'm sure will enjoy their new office very much.

This got a building permit just before Christmas, so it should be moving forward soon. I've looked at the most recent plans and they're pretty close to the original glass vision but with a few minor changes. This is a really neat reno of the TD building and I can't wait to see the finished product!

There's good glass and bad. Personally, downtown #HamOnt doesn't have enough of the former (and very little of the latter either). To me this will be a standout example of the good.

Especially considering the nondescript this will be replacing.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good quality curtain wall. The site plan shows they've added some fritting to the glass (probably for birds) but the plan is very much similar to the render shown earlier, so I've got high expectation.

I love that this is technically a renovation, not a rebuild. Good on Effort Trust.

Surprising, given the addition of two new floors. I wonder if the older building was constructed with a foundation meant to support a future expansion?

This could be just a "regular" glass box without those angled edges on the bottom and the top. With them it's much more impressive.

I'm not qualified to say what is good glass and bad, but I think the addition of this style will be great for the Gore. Obviously we don't want to tear down all of our heritage buildings and replace them with modern, but this will really add something.

This corner could look really good once this is done- that's not the case now. It will be a cool contrast between this and the well-preserved building kitty corner. When the bingo hall is redone, this will be a great spot.
