It certainly took long enough for some to speak publicly on the delay.

Nice. Looks like they have a bunch of ETFE or whatever the roofing membrane is in those boxes.

Well I would assume they've done some homework on it.

A quick search on google. The cold has no effect on the material itself. Not sure how many layers they're using here. I would assume they've figured out temp differences between inside and out. The inside will be like a rainforest IIRC.

I still think they have no idea how to actually attach those panels to the (somewhat flexible) frame.

Or at least no idea how to start.

Somewhere there is one, likely a lot more, engineers who are absolutely losing their shit about this project. Glad it's not me!

I was hanging out in the park near it the other day.... it's remarkable how little has been done in the years since they started. I know the roof is delayed, but as those photos show... there really hasn't been all that much done at all.

It's been on hold for over a year IIRC. Maybe almost 2 years by now.

Outdoor Gardens

I assume a bunch of you saw this, but just in case...they are opening up the outdoor gardens components of Canada's Diversity Gardens this July. Around 30 acres of gardens. The planting will only be fully complete next year (they are adding another 2000+ plants/trees), but tons of work has been done already. The greenhouse (Leaf) roof installation is "ongoing" with a target date for opening the Leaf in late 2022.

Great news. It’s going to be beautiful when it’s complete.

Isn't the roof of the new Viking's new stadium ETFE!? I heard it has performed incredibly well. Winnipeg's climate isn't that different... 3b vs 4a. Am I missing something? Where are you getting your info?

By the time this thing finishes up, climate change may have already moved Winnipeg up a few zones...

I'm really looking forward to it too. 36,000 plants already planted, including 600 trees! Another interesting bit from one of the articles I read - they are using greenhouses at (around?) the old conservatory to grow plants for the Leaf.

And yes, it looks like the use of EFTE for roofs in snowy climates is a thing https://www.wired.com/2016/09/vikings-stadium-roof/

Looks like the name Canada's Diversity Gardens may be done. Website only mentions The Leaf and the outdoor gardens at The Leaf:
https://www.assiniboinepark.ca/leaf/vision

(I also thought Canada's Diversity Gardens was a dumb name)

HAHA!! Great news for the engineers. They can forego the fancy skin installation! Open air that sucker, 4 seasons.
