Where Do You Go to have Fun in Your City?

Where are the places or districts in your burg you go to relax, have fun, party, be entertained, etc. Where is the nightlife? The lively places? The amusement zones, best parks, great museums, night clubs, "must see" places, places to meet people etc. If a visitor asked you where to go to have fun in your town, where would you send them? Once this pandemic is over, people will want to go out and have fun. Just like they did in the 1920s after the "Spanish Flu" went away. The "Roaring 2020s" are coming! Where is the ROAR the loudest where you live?

San Diego

Downtown/Gaslamp/Little Italy. Coronado. La Jolla. Midway. Balboa Park. Mission Bay/Mission Beach/Pacific Beach. North Park/Hillcrest. Ocean Beach. Del Mar/Solana Beach. Old Town. TJ. All are shadows of themselves because of covid, but hopefully will open up next year as covid goes away (we hope).

Right now? Nowhere (although it has been reported to me that certain part of the Mission District and North Beach are still partying like it's 2019 in the streets which have been closed to traffic).

You probably know the places in more normal times: The Castro, SOMA clubs, Polk St between Geary and maybe Clay, the Mission (or if you happen to be a 60-something straight male looking to ogle breasts, Broadway in North Beach).

Is Carol Doda still working? She must be at least 70, even 75. Is there still a Hungry i? Are there still beats reading and reciting poetry, hippies selling incense and illicit stuff? Are there still good jazz clubs? Is it all gone? Have the technos taken over? Is everything quiet because of covid? SF has changed, some would say for the better, others for the worse. It is certainly more expensive, but most desirable places are. The "bohemian element" has been largely priced out, or are they now in the homeless ranks.

For Central London -Soho mostly, maybe Whitechapel or Vauxhall further out. Islington is dead now, Vauxhall dying.

Locally it's Clapham Junction (not actually in Clapham which is a mile away, but in Battersea), Clapham, Brixton, Peckham, London Bridge which are the hotspots for SW London.

For Chicago: too many to name

For the burbs: go to Chicago, have a blast! If you insist on staying in the burbs, though, then perhaps one of the big malls?

This one is for Steely Dan: Schaumburg!

^^^ Ditto for Vancouver. Canadians don't refer to Vancouver as "no fun city" for nothing.

yeah, Vancouver is super for outdoorsy stuff, but in terms of city fun stuff...not really. Pales compared to Montreal, but then so does every other city in Canada save for Toronto.

In Wilmington specifically, Trolley Square is the neighborhood with the bars, and where the yuppies like me go. Market Street in Wilmington has a few bars as well.

If you consider all of Delaware as a "metro area" or insular area, the big place to go is Dewey Beach (in the summer). Chill on the beach during the day, then hit up the bars at night, then find a girl for the end of the night. There are the heavy-hitter bars, and then several smaller bars as well. Dewey Beach is also the place where many of the young people from the DC metro and Baltimore metro go, and a handful of people from the Philadelphia area (mainly farther west where there's a cultural connection to Delaware, like Chester County).

What about Notting Hill? They made a movie about it. Is that a fun place?

Is the Henry Ford (museum complex) a big draw in the area? Does Detroit have any big amusement parks ( like Disneyland or 6 flags) or does everyone drive to the big one in Ohio on Lake Erie? Is there a fun zone on Belle Isle?

Detroit used to have Boblo Island (which was actually in Canada) but it’s been closed for decades now. You got there by taking a steamboat from downtown. But yeah, Cedar Point is Detroit’s amusement park.

Berlin

Any Berliners out there? Must be lots of 24 hour zones, at least before & after covid. Has east Berlin become a more cool place to hang out than west? Or not? Are the two parts completely blended, or are they still distinct? Are there lots of nightclubs and cabarets like the old days? If so what area of Berlin has the most?

I went to the Expo in 1986 and had a good time. I went in summer so it hardly rained at all. Didn't they do something with that area (is it called False Bay?) to make it fun after the expo ended? Or just a bunch of condo/apt. towers? Missed opportunity. Vancouver is a place to enjoy nature. The tram ride up to Grouse Mountain is fun and the view spectacular. Victoria is nice too, and even more staid than Van. All the afternoon teas and British vibe. Nice but give me Canada. Canada is not England (or France) and it is not the U.S.-- it is Canada and that is good.

All of the named entities are fun zones. The museums and Science centers are fun zoned for families and children, as well as the Riverwalk, on the Riverwalk there are spots to stop and engage in interact fun. All the entities are large draws for people in our region, northwest Ohio, all of Michigan, some of Indiana. There are no amusement parks, only the one in our region that you mentioned thats in Sandusky Ohio
