I read the original article in Le Droit, The name "Centre Slush Puppie" would only apply to the 4,000 seat arena. The three community rinks would each have their own local, corporate name. The group building the project will be considering ways to have Robert Guertin's name somewhere in the new facility (exercise room, mural..?)

The City of Gatineau has created a committee to commemorate Le Vieux Bob. The Olympiques would like to play at least one final match in the old arena before they move to their new digs at Slush Puppie.

Covid-19, followed by the homeless crisis accentuated by the fires at Le Gîte Ami which resulted in the arena used as a shelter, have so far prevented the team from playing at Guertin.

Some history on the site. The NCC sold the land bordered by La Cité, Carrefour, Montée Paiement and the train tacks to the old City of Gatineau in 1996 for $1. One condition was imposed: any profits from reselling the land would have to go to the revitalization of rue Jacques-Cartier in Pointe-Gatineau.

The City sold three corners of land: where the Home Depot and Bureau en Gros now stand (2001) and the space for the Federal office building and Brookfield office building (2003).

When la La Cité was chosen, the City claims the politicians were informed of this clause from 96', but some Councillors say they won't such as opponents of the Mayor. In any case, work on Jacques-Cartier was completed by then.

Community rinks opening on Friday, February 5th. The 4,000 seat arena, the future home of the Olympiques de Gatineau, is still scheduled to open in September.

Could a moderator change the thread name to Centre Slush Puppie | 4000 sea | Partially Complete?

Here are some images showing one of the newly open community rinks and progress on the main arena.

The source also includes the opening news conference.

Like getting brain freeze from a Slush Puppie in the middle of winter. Do they just tap the rink to supply the shaved ice?

Another big box fits perfectly with all the other big boxes. The Slush Puppie sign is my favorite thing about it. Too bad the cartoon dog character didn't make the cut.

The Bob was a trend-setter. That barcode design on the roof was way ahead of its time

One last hurrah for Le Vieux Bob. The Olympiques de Hull (last time we'll be able to use that moniker) could still play one last game at the old arena and have proper closing celebrations should the health measures allow it in September.

They are going to need one hell of a hazmat team to get the old arena ready for a game. It's been an extension of the shelter since covid started, the whole area is full of needles, raw sewage and garbage.

Looks better inside than I was expecting. Should provide a proper junior hockey experience (though probably less of a home-ice advantage than the Bob).
