I just ask because it seems like they are digging really deep, already appears to be ~3 stories deep
I agree it looks quite deep but the plans only show it as having one level of underground parking, 39 spaces, so I don't think so.

New signage on the hoarding identifies this development as "The Johnathon" (sic)

^Adding to that it is being built by RC Jane Management. They recently built The Edison on Dutch Village/Westerwald. That building turned out nice so here's to hoping this has that level of quality or better.

Although they are spelling it wrong, I approve of the name!

Does anyone know what companies usually carry out these deep, mostly rock excavations?

Usually it's the familiar heavy civil companies: Dexter, ARCP (Atlantic Road Construction and Paving), Brycon, Kynock, Allterrain.

The construction site, and crane is working this morning (Good Friday) in these high winds. Any thoughts as to whether this is okay? What's the working wind max for tower cranes?

I wonder if they are pushing limits because they are afraid of getting shut down due to Covid soon...

It's funny how many times I drive by this development and forget it exists.

The exterior can still make or break the final outcome but in terms of scale and land use this project is near perfect for this site. It adds density that the North/Chebucto corridor needs but its scaled in a way that it just blends in and is hard to notice.

It looks great so far. I'm sure the same residents of the area who complained will eventually love some extra retail along Chebucto.

Sorry for the lack of updates on this one. I finally remembered to stop today though!

I appreciate the two different tones on the facade but I just wish they had delineated them in some way.

Looks OK, not spectacular but not every building can be spectacular. Every city needs mediocre, functional buildings to do the job of providing people with a place to live while adding density to an area mostly populated with single family dwellings. In the future there's no doubt it will be easy to pick it out as a 2020s build.

Going back to 2009 on Google maps, this is definitely a change from the Ultramar station that used to take up that lot.

I was tired of the "achromatic" trend more or less from the moment it started. Bring on the warmer colours and materials, plus more ornamentation.

When considering recent builds, I wonder about cladding lifespan based on materials, and the cost of replacing cladding over the next 20-30 years as required.
If a building is otherwise well-constructed, can we expect cladding changes over the years as materials fail or fashions change? If so, then unfortunate choices of colours or materials during the initial build are less of a long-term concern.

I'll grab a photo of this one soon but it is turning out nicely. They put a lighter colour on the top of the building and are rebuilding the sidewalk. The glass storefronts look good.

Skill Samurai is the first confirmed commercial tenant. They are an international S.T.E.M. tutoring organization for school aged children.
