Keep it London Ontario please. Maybe build a new urban-suburb between London and St Thomas and call it New London. I hadn't been in London since 1990 and was pleased to see some of my favourite old restaurants still in business.

KW is really just another Mississauga: Downtown Kitchener could be Port Credit, Uptown Waterloo Streetsville and the rest is just suburban hell. UW reminds me of UTM. Breslau is Cooksville, St Jacobs is Clarkson. I can see KW becoming another 800,000+ Mississauga-style city and maybe Guelph turning into another Brampton. Cambridge is its own nightmare: Oakville, Bronte and Burlington?

If London increased its population to 1-2 million, I could see it building an underground LRT before KW.

London is a lovely city and has a great reputation. It's importance, thou once diminshing, is increasing again and not just due to it's fast growing population and oddly enough, London's stature is growing because Toronto's is growing.

London will never become part of the urban Toronto blob as it is too far and there is a large gap of populated places between Brantford & Woodstock on the 403 and Kitchener & Woodstock on the 401. London has always been and will continue to be a major regional centre. Hamilton and Kitchener on the other hand are growing cities but with declining prestige and relevance as they are becoming engulfed by Toronto's urban sprawl.

Probably, but it does seem like the "Greater Golden Horseshoe" continues to swallow places. I wouldn't say 'never', but it is pretty darn unlikely.

In any case, I associate London with great healthcare (my sister was there for a liver transplant) and being a "hub" of Loyalist history.

This was a common stereotype in the '70s and '80s but things have changed since you last lived here. I have not noticed this attitude at all (I've lived in London off and on for the past 15 years). Many of the insurance jobs have left for Toronto and manufacturing is actually an important industry in the London region. Like any city, some parts of London are very nice but the city is struggling with the lowest employment participation rate in the province and the poverty rate in London is no different than it is in Windsor or Hamilton.

I'd go with, "London, we've got a lot more style than the other one" and then flash the London Olympics logo.

I would just keep it's name and all the references..Ironically, that's what I personally find unique about London Ontario..All it's quirky references.
As a side note, I only visited London maybe 2x many years ago, and I thought it was beautiful city..It struck me at that time as having pedigree and like others have mentioned, an old wealth kind of vibe. That's what's nice about Ontario. Having multiple established urban areas such as London, and not just 1 or 2..Heck, Edmonton or Calgary weren't much larger when they got their respective NHL teams. Ditto for QC.

I wish they'd call it New London. Like all the new world cities. Just to removed the standard response when someone says they are from London. "England?"

Lets just go with one of the small town names we absorbed. Hyde Park, Lambeth, Byron. Because people east of Wharncliffe don't already have a complex lol.
