^For me personally what I find special about that shot of the Hubbard Farms neighborhood with The Ambassador Bridge in the background is a combination of the lighting and the character of the area. Hubbard Farms is the western most edge of S.W. Detroit a neighborhood that has defies traditional Detroit trends and images.

It’s the most diverse district of the city while working class whites have been displaced by Hispanics as the majority they still have a strong presence in certain areas such as there is also a growing middle eastern community around the border with Dearborn.

Ascetically the district has a different character to the rest of the city it has a much higher concentration of row houses and apartments then the rest of the city giving it a bit of an east coast industrial city vibe.

Lastly on S.W. Detroit has bucked the population decline trend of many other outter neighborhoods and has been constantly growing for decades.

That Ambassador Light up by an orange sky with a dense little neighborhood infilled with new construction loomed over by a historic church is cool n all but with SW being possibly the least photographed but most interesting areas of the city makes it all the more sweet. Speaking for myself of course

I really love the housing project down below...locationwise.

You can step out of attic to roof to enjoy the best angle of Detroit skyline right in front of you at close range. YOu can even WALK to the city center with your dog or skateboard

Hope Detroit rebound in 2021 and after.

That was my thought too there’s been development edging in from all sides into what was sort of the overflow back lot for downtown parking. It’s the right kind of development to act as a fulcrum for bringing together NW downtown with Woodbridge - Wayne State while at the same time infusing more residents in the Cass Park area.

It’s truly hard understate just how much Beacon Park has done in terms of reactivating this corner of downtown. NW downtown was a sea of parking lots surrounded by unattractive skyscrapers.

I get floored whenever I see a new angle of the renovated Book Tower. Before it was cleaned up often it was mentioned as one of the city’s ugliest skyscrapers it’s incredible ornate structure saturated with decades of soot gave the building a dark gothic look.

Work has been slow and barely meeting deadlines at the Herman Kiefer Medical complex along with accompanying renovations in neighboring stretch of Virginia Park. City Council is putting its foot down with the New York developer who was afforded a land deal to renovate the complex and surrounding neighborhood. Here’s a peak at the massive former hospital which lies vacant but well kept in a key area west of the north end.

The North End from Arden Park to Lasalle Gardens has seen a wave of new investment and renovations although it has been in a patchwork nature a renovated Herman Kiefer Complex would anchor the district and act as a focal point for more investment. The city has allowed for delays especially due to last year’s COVID lockdown but is setting a firm deadline for more significant progress. Here’s an earlier pic showing the bones of what we’re talking about.

Southwest got its own swagger vibrant, complex, brilliantly photogenic.

These are getting up there in age so I only picked out ones that are still representative of areas pictures.

Springwells Village’s western end with its proximity to heavy industry like the Ford Rouge the area has its charm. Oakwood Heights is off the screen to the upper left corner.

SuperStock

Oakwood Heights was until recently a working class white holdout neighborhood separated from the rest of the city by the Rouge River. But with the expansion and retrofitting of the Marathon Refinery for processing Tar Sands oil the neighborhood was subject to buyouts due to the increased pollution in an area already surrounded by industry.

The David Stott in its full glory. It’s hard to imagine the winter of 2014’-15’ during a period of ownership by a Chinese investment firm who neglected the building so badly that when a water main broke it went undetected for days. The damage was feared so extensive that some proclaimed the tower’s demise. What a couple years of good work by a actively involved landlord can do.

This is a real big one be warned I didn’t post it for while because of the dissonance between a single large post and the rest of thread. But shiitt it’s a gem perhaps a bit in a rough none the less Detroit’s skyline can only be truly taken in full from the north in addition to the better balance the urban platter of midtown laid out before is the true face of the motor city.

After hours in the heart of midtown

Edit; one last find from pages left up I had decided not to post it because of the small size but it fits well on this post after leaving the larger images for later.

Thanks I’ve taken a liking to scoping em out every so often not to mention the likely bonus that they place a banger at the end showcasing the beauty of the area. When I had a subscription with Crain’s Detroit that was another go to I found this one before I hit my monthly limit thankfully from the edge of the Gordie Howe construction zone it’s from last October but there’s not much going on in Delray other than GH work so it’s pretty much up to date.

It’s a depressing knowing that they depopulated an entire neighborhood just to expand and retrofit the Marathon refinery to process tar sands. Im not a huge fan of fracking but thinking of the short and long term consequences placed on residents of a neighborhood already chock full of heavy industry only a couple years before the shale boom made the US the largest energy producer is ironic to say the least..

Everything else aside a damn fine skyline pic the lighting is almost perfect.

Edit here’s one more came across when I was closing down pages it’s advertising pre-leasing for a significant mixed use project at 525 Frederick.
