Are there still any police checkpoints between Ottawa and Gatineau?

Just saw bunch of cops on Portage stopping people entering Ontario.

I heard that Pfizer will be a popular name for newborns in 2021.

Pfizer Johnson Smith , or Astra Zenaca Jones have a nice ring to them.

On the evening of May 9th around 8:30 pm, I saw 2 Ottawa cop cars had 4 cars pulled over and were questioning the drivers. This was on Aviation Parkway. All 4 pulled over vehicles has Quebec plates.

Was it COVID-related?

Seems a bit far from the bridges to be Covid-Related

In theory at least, don't cops in Ontario currently have the authority to pull anyone over at any time, and ask them what the purpose of their "outing" is?

Wouldn't be surprised. They have random checkpoints in Gatineau too.

Not outside of curfew hours (8 pm- 5 am) or away from the actual interprovincial bridges themselves they don't.

Not sure. However I have noticed increased police presence on the Aviation Parkway over the last month.

This photo of Joe Biden getting his second dose of vaccine has been seen around the world by countless people around the world.

So who is the other guy?

He is none other then Ric Cuming, B.ScN. ---an alumnus of the uOttawa Faculty of Health Sciences. Ric is a native of Montreal and has worked in hospitals there before taking a job in the USA.

That's awesome! U of O represent

Meanwhile, I'm at the Civic today rounding on the COVID ward and I am one of only a handful of healthcare workers with two doses

That said, they are expediting the 2nd doses for high risk healthcare so hopefully I won't be lonely for long!

No kidding, it's about time they got extra doses to health care, with teachers and essential retail right behind.

---and yet a new British study finds that you get better results with the Pfizer vaccine if you give the second dose 12 weeks after the first dose instead of 3-4 weeks.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/covid...tudy-1.6026765

We should remember that Pfizer at al. were under pressure to come up with a vaccine to deal with a pandemic emergency as quickly as possible. So they did a clinical trial with two doses 21-28 days apart and it worked. If they had done one with 12 week intervals (to show that it worked even better) the trial would have taken longer and it would have taken 2 months longer to get FDA/HPB approval and thus, at least two months longer to make a vaccine available.

This interactive page is quite fascinating. Our small outpost of an airport may have helped us:

Yes. These vaccines were developed within weeks. The 21/28 1 dose 2 dose were all educated guesses not tested against each other to find the most effective regimen.

One shot is incredibly effective at preventing serious illness which is the main point.

I agree healthcare workers should have gotten second shots much earlier but otherwise spreading out the doses has been a good strategy with our limited vaccine supply.

Just got a test back that was positive. I think I was exposed on Saturday or Sunday, so I'm about 3-4 days into it now. Have any of you folks gone through it yet?

First symptoms started today. Runny nose with strange taste, scratchy voice. Nothing else so far.

I'm triple vaccinated but also immunocompromised. Wish me luck!

Good luck! Triple vaxxed you'll do fine. I've had 2 positives in my practice today; the first time more than one in a day in a long time. I think we are seeing the beginning of everyone getting COVID19. Be well!

I finally scratched the itch and did the lab COVID panel. It checks for total antibody count and prior natural infection. I was positive for prior infection (expected, almost assuredly March 2020) and antibodies through the roof (literally higher than the max value on their scale). Vaxxed plus prior infection has to be the gold standard of protection.
