We have what? 6-7 in center city and 2-3 in U-City right? With 2-3 more join sometime this year! Being the overbuild next door, the Schyuykill yards tower and 20th and Arch street. SO if timed right we could have up to 13 cranes at once! (not counting those outside U-city and center city)

I count at least 15 tower cranes up right now at this very moment.

The Laurel - 1
2222 Market - 1
Broad & Spring Garden - 2
River Walk - 1
Arthaus - 1
CHOP Hub for Clinical Collaboration - 3
East Market Phase 3 towers - 2
Piazza Terminal towers - 2
Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professionals - 2

Total tower cranes - 15

Plus we have the tower cranes going up for Cathedral Place Phase 1 tower and One uCity Square within the next couple of weeks.

My construction geek life will be complete when that PECO lot is developed (along with 8th and Market).

The lot has been a parking lot for many decades. It was an oil storage facility going back 80-100 years so it very well may be a superfund site.

The view from 76 coming into the city is pretty cool with the cranes from Riverwalk, this project, and the Laurel all in a virtual line.

127 sites in Pa. 3 in Philly and this isn't one of them. Maybe it should be? Can anyone research and find out the owner? I bet its PECO, paying next to nothing on it tax wise

It's not a Superfund site per se, but the northern half of the lot is indeed contaminated with PCBs and other materials used in older electrical transformers.

Thanks for the correction. This is a street atlas map from 1910 that shows Philadelphia Gas Works as the owner with what look to be two storage tanks of some sort.

Here is the site in 1949...as a parking lot.

Per Atlas, PECO is the owner. It looks like they do pay some property taxes (they currently have a ~$70k balance) but a lot of it is tax exempt.

You can see the tower crane in this shot. This building will add some nice needed density to this part of the skyline.

I wasn't able to get a picture, but I rode into Center City on Saturday and there are steel beams well above ground level now. Hopefully it will keep rising a floor a week going forward as this is one of my favorite projects going up in Philly right now.
