Highway 69 conversion

I thought I would start a thread about the conversion of highway 69 to 4 lanes.

Lets track accidents and widening construction.

So, when do you think the entire route will be 4 lanes?

Accident-wise, I remember there being a fatal one north of Nobel back in February. Then, there was a bad one at Shawanga lately.

Completely converted to 400? Say 2067?

Given that it has taken 15 years to twin just under 60km and factoring the required negotiations with the 3 reserves, I'd estimate 2030-2035 as a reasonable timeline to complete the next 80km.

That's depending on government support, of course.

OPPCommunicationNER reported at 9:10 pm that 69’s closed between 124 and 522.

For the parts that won’t be twinned until much later, maybe it’s time to install tall walls in the centre median? For passing, see my suggestions in the TCH thread (which will rely on strict enforcement).
Also, lol people will have to drive with windows shut even in summer because there could be snakes on the barrier and you sure don’t want them in your car~~~

Seriously though, 3 serious accidents have happened on 69 in Parry Sound (2 fatal), and why is the MPP for Parry Sound - Muskoka not saying anything...

Probably due to the muzzle placed on him by Ford.

So did Ford put one on Fedeli too? I’m always surprised that the latter has never voiced any concern about both branches of TCH in his riding.

As of today, wildfire’s only 7 km away from Highway 69. I read it from Global News.

The CN tracks are closed. All trains are on the CP tracks.

I wonder what these heavy equipments are used for.

They are building a new wind farm and associated hydro line along the Highway 69 corridor through here. My guess would be that the work listed in this twitter post has to do with those projects, and not anything to do with the highway widening itself.

I modified MTO's design for 17/69 a bit.

The only difference is that I replaced the roundabout with another cloverleaf, thus making the interchange free-flowing at high speed.

Any thought (other than the fact that it costs more )?

Also I added EDR's for 69 near McFarlane Lake.

Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Renewed Push for Twinning

https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...1-420d51879452

After those 14 km are completed, though, if the push doesn’t come from Parry Sound, I wonder whether any additional pressure from Sudbury will cut it. Politics is for sure at play.

I didn't know until now that there's been little going on in terms of construction south of Highway 522.

That's been going on for over a year now.

There is a neat little orphaned section of four lane highway just east of the current alignment south of the Highway 522 intersection, where they are going to realign the railway:
