Since the end of January of this year, roughly 2,500 deaths in USA from corona virus. About a 1.5% death rate of those exhibiting symptoms. Dr. Fauci stated that possibly 100,000 to 200,000 Americans could die from this. I didn't read anywhere - in what time frame. Six months? One year? Time will tell.

I don't think that it's currently possible to compare deaths from COVID-19 to the regular flu since nobody has any idea
for sure when things will peak and when they will go down. You would really only be able to compare it to the flu after 1 year of COVID vs. 1 year of the flu to see the difference and make comparisons. I'm sure a lot depends on how effective social distancing and lockdowns are at slowing the spread. Again, nobody can know that until after the fact since this is all completely new ground.
The first death from COVID in the US was reported on Feb. 29 in Washington state. Today, 30 days later we have approximately 2500 dead. So that many in 30 days, not 60 which would have been the end of January.
Here are some links to just data if you want numbers by date, including a breakdown of positive, negative, hospitalized, tests completed, deaths, etc. for each state and the US as a whole:
https://covidtracking.com/
An example of the data from that site today (4PM EST) for the 'Coronavirus numbers by state' spreadsheet starting from March 4 at the bottom and today's number at the top:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...UeOj5/pubhtml#
It's hard to say how current or accurate this data really is since each state reports differently and some are testing more than others. If anything, the numbers are almost certainly higher, but we really won't know until things slow down and reporting can catch up.
Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you care to from this data.
ALSO: I would request for the mods to create a new thread for this discussion since, while it is important to discuss, it is equally important to have someplace to go to get away from it as well. This thread should be one of those places to get away to.
