I think the design took some cues from SHoPs 111 West 57th.

Yeah these are troubling times. So hard to decide. These are NY problems. Deciding which of the amazing supertalls is better than the other amazing supertalls.

A great time to be witnessing this architectural history.

I think it's safe to say we're in a new skyscraper design renaissance. It feels like finally we've reached the point where some sort of decor is brought back to the forefront of designs, even if it's broad, not exactly intricate like prewar structures. At least now we have some eye catching shiny colors from other metals, and not just sun rays bouncing off of glass and steel. I love this trend of using these copper toned metal finishes too. Just screams class and sophistication.

And we still don't know what we're getting with the 1,050 ft 262 5th Ave, or even 80 South Street and 360 10th Ave. I'm hoping all will be on this level of design,
something that could better stand out in what's becoming a skyline of supertalls.

I really do believe this tower to be in the conversation with some of our best designs going up right now.

NYC keeps killing it yo, I would imagine in 50 years most of these new supertalls going up will become city designated protected landmarks. They are much much better looking than the 1950's and 60's modernistic crap the city has been designating as of late.

Agree its futuristic and retro at the same time.. was never a fan of the all glass tower so Im glad to see that era seemingly coming to an end.

This new design is something to get excited about. I love how 45 Broad Street and 111-57 Street West are bringing a modernized Art Nouveau into architecture. Very refreshing.

Yes, I am as excited for this one as I am for 9 DeKalb. Verre and Steinway are still my favs, but the other two are up there.

Building Permits Hit Record High in First Few Months of 2017

New York City saw a record number of new residential building permits issued in the first quarter of 2017, hitting the highest level in a decade, according to an analysis released today by the New York Building Congress.

In the first three months of the year, the New York City Department of Buildings greenlighted construction permits for 6,343 apartments—nearly triple the 2,158 units approved at the beginning of last year. The last couple of months even beat the beginning of 2015, when developers rushed to file plans ahead of the expiration of the 421a tax break and the city issued permits for 6,183 units.

The construction trade group reports that this has been the best first quarter in construction since 2007, when a development boom paved the way for the city issuing 7,264 permits.

.....For the first quarter, Brooklyn led the pack with 2,097 permitted units, or roughly a third of the citywide total. Manhattan came in second with 1,486 units, followed by Queens with 1,434, the Bronx with 1,124, and Staten Island with 202 units approved for construction.

That's good its picking up. I recall the numbers from last year being underwhelming. I'm sure this expresses confidence in the market. Should aid those projects in the pipeline that have yet to see the demo or construction permits.
