Yeah that building should probably be preserved given its age. I had no idea it was from the early 1960's and had always just assumed the facade was added in the 80's or 90's to an older building. If that metalwork is really MCM design it should absolutely be preserved since that's pretty radical and funky for that era.

Is the facade totally original or was the metal added later? It just looks so new, like it could have been built yesterday, so I have a hard time believing it's original. It could just be one of those buildings like Inland Steel that doesn't age at all in which case it absolutely needs to never be torn down.

It's just incredible to me how large the elevator core is. Pardon me if this is the wrong thread to ask this question, but why don't more new buildings we see in Chicago use an all steel structure like the Leadenhall Building in London to create more room for the floors? Is an elevator core really so important for stability these days?

And away we go, the core is about to take off like a rocket and we know how fast the steel follows. Would imagine the tower crane can't be far off, probably once they get the steel trees up along the river...

Aware the dumping is old but the suit isn't. There was some debate on the outcome and if what was being pumped into the river actually was cause for action.
