Which Building's Crown/Roof/Spire Would Make the Ultimate Condo?

I got the idea for this thread from a post by Texcolo in "A History of the Singer Building Construction" (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...62&postcount=9).

Let's say that you have all of the clout and clams necessary to acquire and convert the top of any existing skyscraper into a private apartment - which building do you chose, and why?

The crown of the Chrysler would be pretty darned awesome, as would be the dirigible-mooring room at the top of the ESB, and the penthouse on the roof of the GE Building (formerly Rockerfeller Center). All of these have fantastic Deco details and expansive views of NYC. And you'd get to walk through an awesome lobby on a daily basis.

What is your choice? It can be in any city - doesn't have to be NYC.

I'll be using your input to develop a poll on the subject.

In the top of 1 liberty place, because it would look interesting, and the views would be outstanding.

The Smith Tower's crown would be an amazing condo. There's already one there but I don't like it. A couple and their son live there. What a lucky kid... The owners were planning on turning the top 12 floors into condo's. Each floor is 1 condo! I think it'd be a great idea and if I had the money I would buy an unit in a hearbeat!

And the other one is the PacMed Building [former Amazon.com headquarters]. A condo in the last 2 or 3 floors would be so freakin cool! And it sits on top of a hill with no other skyscraper around it so you have amazing 360 views. I've always wanted to sneak up to the top and take some pictures but I haven't found a way yet.

All pictures by me

I would love having a condo on the top floor of the PSFS Building. Including a terraced roof deck under the giant PSFS sign. It would be one of the most awesome views in the city!

I've always been partial to this one... Of course it's already a condo, so probably not what you're looking for.

Not a problem if already a condo - and I agree that the one on top of The Pierre is pretty spectacular.

Not even a question for me: the crown of Detroit's Book Tower.

The Open Lake Group

pictures of Detroit

Because of its location within downtown, it offers some of the absolute best views of the CBD. I'd give honorable mentions to the crowns of the David Stott and Fisher Building, which also make for some pretty brilliant and interesting living areas. They simply don't make buildings like this, anymore.

If not Chrysler, I'd want the skybridge in the Shanghai World Financial Center.

I also wouldn't mind living at the top of the Space Needle.

I wouldn't mind a condo in the crown of one of the Grand Gateway towers in Xujiahui, Shanghai;

My vote goes to the Met Life Clock Tower.

From Wikipedia

From 200East.com

From gothamist.com

Supposedly it was going to be converted into condos, but the recession may have changed that...
