Work on Dubai's Tallest Tower Stopped

Recession has hit the world hard and it has come fast. On its heel comes the news that construction work on the Nakheel Tower in Dubai, destined to become the world’s tallest when completed, has been stopped for a year. Several labourers working on the ambitious project have been laid off as progress has been "stopped until further notice".

They're already building Burj Flipping Dubai, what's the point of building anything taller? They might as well build it in another emirate city in the UAE, not in the same city! It's a complete waste of resources, they might as well use it to build a space elevator or a race of super-intelligent machines capable of making more intelligent machines.

A waste because the price of steel was recently at a ridiculously high level, not to mention that it WON'T be even filled with enough tenants.

Skyscraper: An extremely tall/expensive/impressive building, necessitated by congestion and amazingly high property prices.

Dubai: an attempt at putting the cart before the horse. A skyscraper alone does not a high property price make. At least not permanently.
