That's true, but we already know that the true value of engineering supertalls with Central Park views will yield tremendous results for commercial Manhattan real estate dollars.

After seeing those YIBMY renderings of all of the 300m towers rising, this design, should be a super tall. Hope they buy those remaining properties and make it happen. 700 ft seems like a waste for the area. While nice, its not grand and bold like its neighbors. If the gorgeous red pre-war is being demo'd, at least a super tall with something like the concept would make its demise worth it.

Seems like the lower units might have a slight obstruction (Time Warner),

But when looking towards the Northeast as the tower gets taller, its a nice angle essentially being on a corner of the park.

That brick structure needs to go.

Lots of potential. I guess its a good thing when that city realty rendering made it difficult to spot this. Took me a couple of seconds. Its surroundings are just over powering, even at 700 feet.

Agreed. They've got to get that short brick building. More girth, more height. Very promising.

Munchymunch says "That's a really nice building to replace..."
I wouldn't be in such a hurry to cheerlead . .
demolition of such cozy warm-hearted stock . .
NYC street life in this hot Midtown neighborhood . .
benefits from hand-carved stone buildings like this . .
more than just another sterile entryway to a 700 ft. shaft of luxury-condos . .
Manhattan skies immediately around columbus circle . .
already have plenty of plain glassy crackers shooting into the sky . .
It's nice to occasionally look over and through buildings . .
to be able to see a bit of skyline and sky beyond . .

In Midtown Manhattan . . what you preserve and what you tear down . .
is just as important . . as what you build up . . All pre-wars are not alike . .
Prosperous Manhattan neighborhoods such as Midtown . .
have a good percentage of the most outrageous pre-wars in all the world . .

NYguy talked about downtown's "Skyscraper National Park" . .
There is -of course- one in Midtown as well . .
these architectural "Parks" have another important aspect to them . .
an aspect overlooked and even maligned on SSP . .
Don't be blind to the magnificent underbrush of fanciful craftsmanship . .
of venerable ornate low-rise pre-wars . .
gorgeous collections of irreplaceable buildings laced between the skyscrapers . .
that give our city . . our forests of towers . . an urbane livability . .

there's plenty of post-war Manhattan crap to tear down . .
plenty of 30 & 40 story buildings that could be replaced . . by 80 & 100 story towers . . But skilled Italian Stone-carving immigrants aren't ever re-landing in New York . .
I'm a . . just speechifying. .

old buildings cheaper to buy? Because it seems they avoid the more modern trashy buildings and buy the gems to redevlop. A sad sign for midtown manhattan's old ornate low rises. I guess it's just too expensive to maintain or rehabilitate these old pre wars and they are just too easy to sell off for some profit. I like the new tower though, it's different.

6 Columbus Circle generating international interest, Hakimian corners LIC office market

Cushman & Wakefield

All the world loves a prime development site

Global interests are rumored to be jostling for a development site adjacent to the city’s so-called Billionaires Row.

Bob Knakal, chairman, New York Investment Sales at Cushman & Wakefield, is exclusively marketing 6 Columbus Circle with Jonathan Hageman and Chris Brodhead.

“This is a world-class development opportunity and we expect to see tremendous interest from across the globe,” said Knakal.

Currently home to an existing hotel, 6 Columbus Circle is situated with 42 feet of frontage along the famous shopping, dining and cultural corridor that has become an enclave of exclusive commercial and residential properties.

Ownership has proposed plans for an illustrative development concept adhering to all zoning regulations applicable to 6 Columbus Circle. Their initial design portrays 700 ft. mixed-use tower with a vertical retail concept and residential component will offer residents sweeping views of Central Park.

Offers for the property — which is expected to fetch close to $90 million — are due February 19.
