A leisurely stroll through the inner city (urbanity+grit)

Walking through the blue collar Gibson, Landsdale and Stinson neighbourhoods in central Hamilton. Lots of old buildings on a tight grid.

Strangely enough, that guy was shaving. He turned around to hide from the camera just as I was taking the picture.
I got him when he turned around, but it's blurry. Don't shave outside or I'll take your picture!

OMG flar, amazing. This is what I used to see every day in High School. I went to the NEW Cathdral HS in Central Hamilton. Wanna know the craziest part?
I bet you didn't know you had a connection, but:

the guy on the right of this pic actually went to

this school (old Cathedral boys, now Wilma's Place for students w/ learning dissabilities) CRAZY!!!

If you got a shot of the "new" Cathedral, u should post it too. Wilma's Place/St Charles Education is affiliated w/ Cathedral, so I actually had a cpl classes in Grade 9 with that kid (before he was moved to Wilma's Place).

Nice pics and all, but "urbanity" is not the noun form of "urban."

krudmunk: If you're insinuating that I should have used the word "urbane", well, that's not the word we're looking for. People on this site know what "urbanity" means.

No, I was insinuating that you did use a form of the word "urbane" when you shouldn't have.

^^English professors would fail to see urbanity in these photos, but I'm arguing that the more common use of urbanity (esp. on this site) is to connote urbanness, not urbaneness. (my post above should have read If you're insinuating that I have used the word "urbane", well, that's not the word we're looking for. People on this site know what "urbanity" means. shouldn't answer post drunk at 4am ) Google urbanity and you'll see what I mean.

Doing some research, I see that the two words have sorta blended into one another. Your use is correct, I see.

Looks like many of the working class hoods I've visited here in the states. A forlorn quality to the pics, but even hoods like this can turn it around. I just don't think all the people there will turn their lives around with it.

poignant pics flar, thanks.

These are so moving to me. These are the neighborhoods that define soul, depth and urban substance. This is what distinguishes the city from the suburbs. Gay whales for Jesus, do I love these pics.

My college band played a show in some punkrock squat in Hamilton in the mid early 90s. Good to see much hasn't changed.

Every time I see photos like this, of some down on its luck city, I am amazed at how much the people are affected and then mirror their environment.
