When the structure itself is literally a collection of staircases there is only so much that can be done.

A morbid thought, but - I wonder what sort of suicide-prevention procedures are in place. The guardrails look so low, and the drop from the top will be unimpeded given the shape of the structure. Like NYU's Bobst library it seems a very effective and public way to commit the act.

Stunning. It will make a beautiful docking station for the mothership.

Hudson Yards’ new complex is a gorgeous sight to behold

By Lois Weiss
March 5, 2019

Quote:
...The Vessel, meanwhile, is truly an instant icon and so much nicer than the subway-like stairways shown at its reveal in September 2016. Thomas Heatherwick has created Instagram-worthy exterior undersides polished to a mirror-like copper sheen contrasted with black and red details on the interconnected staircases.

Its 2,500 steps and 80 landings will attract crowds of climbers and onlookers.

There’s an elevator for those who can’t make the climb — or just want a ride down. Plan to linger and take in the view, angles and architecture of Hudson Yards from this centerpiece that stretches from 50 square feet at its base to 150 square feet at the 150-foot-high top, and is right outside the shop-stuffed podium.

It's the core for the low-rise building that will go in front of the Vessel. Scroll up to NYGuy's 3/1 post to see a rendering of it.

^ Yeah, it will be some kind of retail arcade or popup store. I believe it also serves for ventilation purposes of the railyard below. There's another one closer to 30 Hudson.

neat. I wondered how the elevator would fit in, it looks like an attraction itself.

Yeah, I didn't think the elevator was something I would do, but it looks like a unique perspective.

Meanwhile, the time is nearly at hand, get ready for about a gazillion selfies...
