TEMPE | Hike A Mountain (Hayden Butte)

so I took a little bike ride and hike today, it's cloudy but still alright. Pictures taken with a cheapo Fuji FinPix camera. Nothing fancy but I though some of you might enjoy them.

ASU GO DEVILS!

City Hall

Light Rail

Time for the hiking to begin

You can't not take a picture of the Mill

Anyone know what's being built here??

THE Mill Ave

Tempe's Very Own Garagemahall!

The Lake and the developments on Rural.

Not Far Now!

This is where Pier 202 (is that the right name?) will go if it ever gets built

Sun Devil Stadium... how I love thee

More construction along the lake

Hope you enjoyed the pics as much I enjoyed taking them

That's the Tempe Transit Center. See this page in the Phx Transit thread.

Thanks for the pics! I can't wait to see that second Centerpoint tower start showing some height.

Gee they really need to build on lot 59N. Thats prime lands just south of the lake. But i think it will come with a lot of backlash from ASU students because parking is going to be a bitch and really expensive. And downtown Phoenix looks terrible in that pic and pales in comparison to the more spread out central ave.

Did you use the A as a slide? I've always done that since I was a kid, it makes your pants a mess, but you can get some great speed and its insanely scary when you pop up and try not to run into a cactus.

I was visiting family in Tempe over the weekend. I admire you for your willingness to make that hike in such heat. I suppose I'm just a pansy from the north, but I felt like my skin was going to melt off just walking from the house to the car.

Nice shots though, Tempe gets better and better every time I visit.

That looks like a picture of lot 59, which is where the Marina Heights development will go. Pier 202 is going north of Rio Salado and east of Rural, on the south east end of the lake...

Great pics. Go Devils! P.S. it's approximately 52 day until the home opener and the start of the Coach Erickson era...

I remember how close Sun Devil Stadium was to that mountain when the Utes played in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. Could it be possible to hike up there for a game and watch it from a spot on the mountain?

Nope. You don't get a good view of the field.

Marina Heights is going in on lot 59N. That is possibly a big reason for garage parking going up to $600 per year and lot 59 parking going up to $240. It won't help in the fall, but after light rail is open, ASU students can park in the free lots in the area and take light rail for free. Sounds like an issue for legit commuters, eh?

^^ Yeah, ASU needs to get on the ball with Structure 8, wherever that will be. It's been a while since I looked at a Tempe campus master plan... Also most of the free lots in north Tempe are going the way of the dodo. Students just need to get more creative with class scheduling and this new, ground-breaking, earth-shaking mode of transportation: (drumroll please) TAKING THE BUS!!!! WOW!!! Such a novel idea!!!! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?!?!?!! Plus, it's free with a bus pass from PTS.
