HX,

Spectacular shots!!! You captured some very nice reflections of the sky and sunshine off of windows onto surrounding buildings.

Thanks

Great shots! thanks for the pics...

The last phoenix one is a very under-shown angle of the downtown skyline. For some reason that north facing angle makes downtown's skyline look stubby (well, it is), but it is a great perspective to see the historic skyline including the Luhrs buildings. I love all of the cranes... it is great to see a new skyline rise.

Does anyone know what this building is used for:

It has a plaque about being a historic newspaper building, but now it seems abandoned. Its one of my least favorite buildings downtown, its super short and a waste of space, has nothing but huge blank walls facing the street and killing street life and it seems abandoned. Looking at the map of where ASU downtown is going to go, it seems like they could definitely put this building to use.

Isn't that building some Telco building? Maybe abandoned now? I can't remember exactly.

This is one of my favorite angles of downtown and once things currently under construction and in the future are complete, this angle will really show the changes well.

You can already see where the Sheraton is rising which will fill things in nicely between the AZ Center towers and Chase...plus the Central Park East will further fill in that large gap and make downtown look a lot "longer".

It's nice to see the impact Summit at Copper Square had on the downtown skyline as well.

No, it's still in the works as a 26 story office building at over 300' in height.

This is Downtown Phoenix (aka Sterling Network) Exchange, a major, major datacenter, not just in Phoenix but certainly ranks among the nation's largest. Just about everybody connects through here.

http://www.carrierhotels.com/propert...pte/dpte.shtml

tells us this about their network capacity:

Quote:
The building is a recognized fiber crossroad on almost every national network backbone. Multiple fiber entrances and vaults. Two dozen carriers/providers currently serve the building, including AT&T, Qwest, Sprint, MCI, Global Crossing, Level(3), XO, Cox, Time Warner Telecom, Allegiance Telecom, SRP Telecom, MFN, Citizens/ELI, WilTel, Savvis, PureGig and Clear Sky Broadband.

DPTE is adjacent to the largest joint trench in the country (21 carriers). Numerous additional providers are in the street adjacent to the building and/or have confirmed that service is available to DPTE, including: Cable & Wireless, Broadwing, InterNAP, McLeod USA, AGL Networks and Touch America.
Yes it's ugly. But having this downtown is pretty frickin cool. And it was sold recently for a LOT of money ... $130 million seems to be the figure I remember.

Another building with similar use is the 3800 Tower, which if you've heard of Easynews, their servers are there and it's also a SourceForge mirror. These are some of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Internet.

Sorry about that.

Excellent photos HX!

Its cool to have that business downtown, the building just really bites though. If I'm remembering correctly its also just north/across the street from a big parking garage. So it creates a pretty big dead zone in that area.
