I find it difficult to find a great red wine in Quebec. The short growing season leaves a more acidic taste, it seems. However, there are great productions, especially in the Brome-Missisquoi region. For example the fortified red
Frontenac from the Val Caudalies estate is exquisite.
Also, you will find many excellent white or grey
Frontenacs (this variety seems to work well in QC),
vins de paille or
vins de glace (ice wines).
So far, I'd say that we have 3 main wine regions in the province : Brome-Missisquoi (southern Montérégie, Dunham), the lower Laurentians (around Oka / Mirabel) and the Orléans / Côte-de-Beaupré area, near Québec.
