Okay this one is potentially huge. I'm sure a few like LVDW already know about it. Vacant land in South Shore near the highway has a new zoning application out to build a new film studio total over 451,000 sq ft with 95 parking spaces. Highest structure would be 62 feet high to the very top. This is the land bound by South Chicago, Blackstone, Harper, and 77th St. It also looks like there would be a new building also on the vacant lot on South Chicago just north of Blackstone. Not sure if the existing building next to that is part of this development or not. The applicant is the same address as RealD company from Beverly Hills (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealD). Digging deeper, it is backed by a few film producers in LA (Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone, the producers for The Chi), Roadtown Enterprises who has a few studios in Atlanta and Mississippi, Real Estate developer Dakota Development (LA, NYC, etc), Loop Capital, and another company responsible for a film studio in Newark, NJ. Looks like there's some potentially serious backing to this. The Illinois Film Office endorses it too.

This is really part of something called Regal Mile Studios. As you can guess, this is just a few minutes walk to the historic and famed Regal Theater on 79th St (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Re...ago,_Illinois)). I think the plans are to build this studio and really a new film and entertainment district on the south side, which would involve bringing back Regal Theater to having more events.

Really great to see this. Last month there was a zoning app to renovate The Forum in Bronzeville to actual legitimate entertainment use again.
