Is that the amenity floor platform towards the bottom? It will have forever views towards southwest over Nelson Park, so there is no need to have it higher up.

This will make for such a ridiculously awesome cluster of towers.

Super stoked on this. Really hope it proceeds.

I know I'll get the Bronx Rasperry for saying this, plus it's politically incorrect, but I preferred the older design, the straight tower (with that crazy roof,)
It set off the Butterfly better, and did not sort of "compete" with it, as it may now. I'd love to see it built (it won't be, I know, yes) with the pixillated roof reworked more practically.
Gotta admit, tough, that group of buildings will at least make a powerful statement hunched together like that. Vancouver has quit fooling around, and this underscores that fact.

Only thing I hate is that just like the other surrounding towers, there would be no retail or public amenities associated with these developments.

The Bronx Raspberry?

What in the world is that? Where do you come up with these 1870s sayings?

Also, this is no doubt several years late but I don't think politically correct means what you think it means:

politically correct adjective

The sky platform on level 17 has an amenity area exclusive to the market homes. There will also be a shared children's play space and amenity area next to the lane. I can see that going over well at the public hearing.

UDP Review

Quote:
In Search Of A Proper Crown – Vancouver’s UDP Supports World’s Tallest Passive House

1059-1075 Nelson Street
Perhaps it is fitting that a building which required a “Super” Urban Design Panel review under the Higher Buildings Policy, also needed both Darren and I to recap it. Due to a prior commitment, he had to leave as the panel began their deliberation, and I arrived just before they gave their opinion. As that process took far longer, it fell to me to write this post.

In truth, the meeting was longer than normal as city staff encouraged the panel to discuss this rezoning proposal’s finer details given its prominence in the skyline. That said, only one person felt height was an issue, as the tower did not “zang” and needed more “zip.” Some felt every building in the area was screaming for attention, something one described as the “Dubai Effect,” even though none of these place among that city’s top 175 tallest

Next week's council agenda has this project listed for referral to a public hearing.

How exactly are they doing "public" hearings under the COVID-19 restrictions?
Web-based Q&A?

Why not just hold it here on our trusty (90's tech) SkyscraperPage.com forum

Although we don't recommend it, you can still attend meetings in person. You must keep 2 m away from other people while at City Hall. Stay home if you're feeling unwell. To attend in person, enter City Hall at the 12th Avenue entrance and check-in with the security officer. Note that City Hall is closed except for Council meetings and media events.

I've always wondered what it would be like to speak to city council sans pants. Hopefully none of them are caught on the toilet... yet again.

Would be great to see this tower go ahead.

I would be amazed if it is able to do so in the current economic climate.

One could market it as a way to stimulate the economy?

I would like to see this one go ahead as well but I do share the same sentiments with you. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this one got cancelled. After all in this COVID-19 crisis, who is going to be able to afford a 800k 1 BDRM? Unless of course the money isn't legitimate...

Its such a guessing game.

The amount of money being pumped in stimulus around the world right now makes 2008 look like the amateurs.

I do see scenario where too much money is once again chasing too few assets.

On the flip side, I also see a scenario where the global economy enters a prolonged period of depression.

I feel like were all collectively at the roulette table right now. Just depends if it lands on black or red.

I agree.

However, after reading the Design Rationale, it is supposed to look like the shape of two bodies of water around a treed environment.

Nice. These two will make an imposing pair and a grand cluster. I cannot wait to see them both being up!

Must be some upset folks buying units on the 50-something floor of the Butterfly just to have their western view obstructed

Well, that's on you if you don't spend time researching your surrounding area development plans. Also, I think there is going to be plenty of air space between the two towers. This is Vancouver with its sparce tower planning after all.
