^ the simplest form of this structure is basically a gas station canopy, and those stand up to the high winds out on the prairie.
This one is much, much beefier - I can only assume that all that extra steel is not to resist uplift forces or wind loading, or else they would have a much simpler structure. It must be to provide a rock-solid frame for all the delicate glass cable wall that is to come, with tiny tolerances for deflection or sway.
