Someday a developer will come along and propose something with some colour, or perhaps even a recognisable architectural style and Hamiltonians will lose their minds...in a good way.

If I were to do some sort of amateur psychoanalysis on these guys I'd suggest they suffer from chronic depression or some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder. It's drab. It's sad. It sends a message of hopelessness.

I assume the developers themselves are soulless and care about money only, and the architect sees the budget, and plans something simple, but complex, which is why you get these oversimplified messy designs.

Where this particular one really suffers for me is the backside, the southwest face. Right now it just looks like a bulky black hulk when viewed from Beckett Dr. and Queen south.

Nice to come back here and see all of the additional progress on this one. It seemed to be stalled between the first 4-6 floors for ages (yeah, I know, podium stuff).

This one rather makes an impact from King and James. It's presence definitely makes one feel that the downtown has begun to spread out geographically.

They're currently putting up walls on the 18th level. I'm hoping to get some better pictures of this one soon, but for now:

Well its looking more and more like the render at least - still hate the precast brick in the front though.

What's with the seemingly random grey panel on that upper floor? Did they run out of the light-coloured ones that day?

It's probably going to be painted but that's still funny to me.

Precast always gets final coats on site, there's just too many chances for damage. Doing the first coat in the shop makes it easier/cheaper on site, but if they're running tight on schedule they can ship it without.

(I used to work at one of the precasters)

This is a Stubbes thing. Stubbes only offers painted finishes. Other precasters like res or global do all kinds of finishes like acid washed or sandblasted that don't require site finishing.

Coltera hasn't built anything else and isn't building anything else in the city right now (though there are proposals)
