I think the rendering might make it appear more enormous than it will be. Overall, it's a bit of an odd design, but it's the sort of intensification we need on non-corridor residential streets.

There IS a beautiful and reasonably well-preserved Victorian house at 1392 Seymour that would have to be bulldozed for this, so I'd like to see this stop a bit short and leave that intact. But otherwise I like it.

This one was approved in May. A neighbour has appealed the decision and it is going before the new Regional Centre Community Council today. The variance is for an additonal 0.04 metres of streetwall height at the very southern end of the building (left side in rendering above).

Fencing is up around the existing brick buildings now, demolition is imminent. I would say based on the size this would be worthy of its own thread.

Blasting has been underway for this one for at least a few days now.

City of Halifax notes that Seymour between Coburg and University will be closed as a result of construction, noting it's named the SEE-MORE project: https://www.halifax.ca/home/news/roa...seymour-street

This crane was halfway up today. Looks like a new one for Halifax.

I was surprised I was able to see it over Citadel Hill from my house in Dartmouth.

That's the crane for the Dal concert hall across the street.

This crane will be taller than the one for Dal, based on the span for both, I assume this will have to be coordinated to clear the Dal crane. They didn’t have the top of the mast or boom on when I drove by on the weekend.

I think this will be a deceivingly large project. The site is large and the building at 6 floors will stand out in the area.

No. It was the half completed new crane that went up for this project. Can see that the rest of it was assembled today.

They are much taller than I expected. But I guess partly this is so the taller crane can clear the shorter one?

It'll be interesting when the cranes for Richmond Yards get up to full height.

The form of them is pretty sneaky, they’re 6 stories plus penthouse/peaks at the highest point.

Good point - you don't get a concept for how tall they will be when you look at the rendering posted above, as it is showing the building from a viewpoint that doesn't exist presently (as if the block of homes across the street didn't exist and you were standing way back on an empty lot).

Maybe that was done purposely to keep down pre-approval protest from the locals? From streetside they will probably appear to be very large, I suspect. My non-suspicious side suggests that this was the only way to show the building in its entirety, so I'm going with that.

As an aside, hopefully whomever was the owner of the shoes hanging from the overhead wires (still trying to figure out why people do that) was able to retrieve them when 1444 was demolished...
