That is one hell of a "in your face" street interface. With the connectivity of Grand Central, the interface between the street/tower appears seamless. Almost might I say elegant.

500-key hotel on the top floors too!

One the worlds tallest hotel views essentially.

Edit: As I posted this, rgarri4 with that money rendering!!!!!!

^^^ it would be neat if they could come up with some sort of interesting transition at the junction between the beaux-arts Grand Central façade and the neo-futurist-ish(?) base of this building

I was thinking the same too. I could definitely see some elements when they reference the Chrysler building. They did a bangin' job with how it blends or merges into Grand Central. It takes a lot to not seem out of touch but that interface is very fluid to work with such an old structure nearby (G Central). The present making it work with 80+ years of history.

This might be more in touch with its surroundings, historical wise, than say 1 Vandy. It just looks like it was designed with historical reflection in mind.

I bet the architects took a design cue from this. SC4's tallest (without mods) coming to NYC!

The right one...

Honestly it all looks amazing but my favorite is actually that awesome radiused stone detail that carries out to the staircase. That is what "competent hands" looks like like when talking about putting a design in the competent hands of an arch firm. Beautiful. And yes that feathered fluting on the super-columns that reference GCT are equally amazing.

Seriously, even an architecture novice could see this is professionally done. I just love the subtle nods to other masterpieces in the city like Chrysler!

The bottom for some reason actually reminds me of the bottom of the Old WTC towers.

The bottom reminds me of the legs of the bald eagle on the back of the quarter. That's probably just me though.

Well, NYguy this new version of the tower I think is just awesome. I like very much. It feels like you've gone back to the 1920s or 1930s. Very nice ... Imagine it all lit up at night. It is the right bigger "brother" of the Chrysler.

Mmmhmmm looking really good!

But will they make a drawing for this huge Supertall? (It doesn’t look like it is 1,600 feet at all... it like 1,530 feet something?)

I think the height is reduced from 1646ft to below the roof of central park tower .
The height look like 1530ft.

Yea compared to 1V pinnacle it's about that, not even as high as CPT but more imposing and prettier.

so central park tower keep the title of the tallest building by the roof .
Grand hyatt cannot rival one world trade center.
We have just to wait what will happen afterward .

Love that the hotel is on the top floors. Makes it accesible for the public for a "small" fee.

I don't know where you people get these ideas. We've seen one drawing, with an improperly scaled 1 Vanderbilt. Relax. They'll let you know if there's a height reduction soon.
