Is it going to be run by METRO??? Either way, I still envy major cities mass transit cities and their penchant for expanding them in comparison to Philadelphia.

If there was a light rail extension towards Delaware Ave, then I would've expanded it between Lehigh Ave and Spring Garden. There's already a trolley spur between Girard Ave and Delaware Ave serving the casino. And at one point in time, prior to the 2008 recession, there were supposed to be several condo projects that was supposed to take place along the Delaware waterfront (the rest of Waterfront Sq, Bridgeman's View, Trump Tower Philadelphia, Penn's Point, and the Greater Philadelphia World Trade Center). As usual, all those projects bit the dust during there 2008 recession.

If this economy heats up again, I could see similar projects coming to fruition. Maybe then a light rail project between Spring Garden and Lehigh would make a lot of sense. If I was running SEPTA, I'd work on creating more subway lines within the city and the immediate area over creating a river line which I wouldn't be sure whether it would be utilized. The secret is connectivity and it's highly important that such a line is connected to the subway/el system.

I love to see that there is now potentially development planned along the river....once it starts .....there will be a waterfall of high rise projects along the river....( so long as covid is conquered)

When discussing subways in Philly why do people always say that there are only 2 lines. In other cities any rail that travels underground is considered a subway, even if the vast majority of the route is at grade ( on the ground) examples being Washington, Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Portland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo. If the rule of having rail run underground works as a definition for subway in other cities, then why doesn't that same rule work for Philadelphia. Transit enthusiasts always say that Philly has 2 or 3 lines But I contend that by using the definition of subway that other cities follow, Philly has 6 lines. Philly has a subway that runs below broad Street, Market Street, Ridge Ave (this is a spur from the broad street line- however in other cities spurs are considered seperate lines- in DC the green and yellow line travel the same route for the majority of the route and deviate or spur at the ends of the line only- the same can be said for the orange and blue lines in DC). Philly also has a line at walnut street (also called the Patco line from New Jersey). Philly has the Arch street lines these are the multiple cummuter lines that go underground downtown serving 3 stations downtown). Philly also has the subway surface trolley lines- 5 seperate routes in total that travel below maket street downtown but travel below pine street in West Philadlphia. Also, the subway surface trolley lines deviate into seperate tunnels in west philadelphia creating spurs. I do not know he other street (other than Pine street that the subway travels below in West philly.

So using this definition of subway lines (recognized and used by other cities) Transit enthusiast should agree that Philly has 6 lines total - 1) Broad St. 2) Market St. 3) walnut st. 4) Ridge ave 5) Arch St. 6) Pine St. In other cities (washington and Atlanta) you have seperate routes traveling in the same tunnel and deviating at the end of the line creating (in their definition) seperate distinct subway lines. If this rule/ definition Of seperate distinct subway lines followed in other cities, was also applied in philly then the subway surface lines would all be considered 5 seperate distinct subway lines and the Arch street line should also be considered 15 seperate distinct subway lines....Sadly, we all know that the rule and definitions of what is and what is not considerate a seperate distinct subway line (while it works in most other cites outside of NY, Chicaga and Boston) do not work for Philly in the eyes of transit enthusiast.

Also, when other cities ( excluding New York, Chicago and Boston) count lines they count all lines combined city and cummuter -suburban lines. When using that line counting method, Philly could identify 20 lines.

As a native Philadelphian I think that most native Philadelphians, Bostonians, New Yorkers and Chicagoans assume that a subway/ El is considered such if the entire route ( or majority) is either buried In a tunnel or travels on a bridge directly above a street, Whereas people from other cities define a subway simply if any of the line (even if it's not the majority of the route ) travels below ground.
As I have always said, Philly is like Rodney Dangetfield's famous statement, "I gets no respect."

The REM is a light metro, not really light rail as you know it in the USA. The rolling stock will be the same as what is use in Sydney, and they call it a metro. It's basically the same as a heavy rail line ; the only difference is that trains will consist of 4 cars instead of 6 or more (as in Sydney). The trains will be shorter, but the frequency is better.

The REM will be run by the CDPQ-infra (Quebec's pension fund), but fares will be fully integrated with other transit agencies (exo, STL, RTL, STM), so there will be no extra charges to take the REM.

i meant to mention this last week, but i was walking by the southern (BIG) portion of the site...and it certainly looked like they were doing soil samples or some sort of major exploratory drilling in the middle of the parking lot. the entire Market St parcel is being used for staging for the Delaware River Trail updates (which look great) so it’s tough to tell if similar things are happening there, but it would be pretty great to see this start showing further signs of momentum.

I used SketchUp it's a free program. I have an old version, SketchUp Make 2017. It's a little clunky.
I don't think the newer versions even have the option to upload it onto GoogleEarth.

I'm kind of obsessed with it though.
It's pretty cool in that it let's you manipulate the view as if they existed in the scene.

Any idea as to when dursts project will start? I think it was sometime during the parks construction but don't remember when

It's a ways off. I wouldn't expect to see a shovel in the ground for two years minimum. This is a really complicated site.

Huh? Nothing has happened to the buildings. Those renderings are for the Penn's Landing park ONLY. Those building massings/renderings have been like that from the DRWC since before Durst was brought on board. Nothing has changed from Durst. Not saying it won't, but those are not officially renderings of their planned buildings.

Everyone: as I said in my post, the Durst project has not been changed in any way. We are still getting a 700'er.

TK, please do not put out a PhillyYIMBY article saying they have been. This rendering from the city is only meant to concern the park overbuild itself. The buildings in the background are placeholder and have no bearing on Durst's actual plans (which again, I must emphasize, have not yet changed).

The Seaport Museum is crying out to be replaced.
Sell that premier lot and move the museum into one of the massive piers to the north.
This lot deserves a signature building

Separate but related, are there any proposals for festival pier yet? While I don’t think a 700 ft will happen there, it’s a lot that can handle some height given the closeness to El.

That's fine for the festival pier. Good low slung building. If built like the renders, it looks high quality and very good density. Win-Win.

BUT, for any proposed buildings next to the yet to be constructed Penn's Landing park, I think any developer would be out of his mind not to go big. At least 500 foot since the park if excuted will all the features as shown in the render will be the impetus for developers to invest there. It's like when you got a great park and your are next to the river, it's a no brainer to go big or go home, as the saying goes.

An extraordinarily ordinary proposal for such an extraordinary site.

nothing says waterfront
this would be great..
a few blocks to the west
NOT ON THE WATERFRONT!
MAJOR TRANSIT!
Not even green roofs
a sickly little path allotted for waterfront public space
all the quirky little gestures
seating on the inside courtyard not even acknowledging that IT'S SITTING ON THE WATER!
I just hope it's not another opportunity lost
SOMEBODY HAS A COMPLETE LACK OF IMAGINATION!

^ I actually disagree, its a handsome, pedestrian friendly, proposal. I do wish there was a green roof, and that it was at least 100ft taller, but this is better then nothing right? Its good looking, dense, pedestrian friendly.
