PM Modi to dedicate Kochi-Mangaluru LNG pipeline to nation on Tuesday
Quote:
Work on the City Gas Distribution system for Mangaluru City too was under progress and some areas of the city were likely to get piped gas supply by the end of the year, he said. While MCF, the lone chemical fertiliser manufacturer in Karnataka uses about 0.85 million standard cubic metres per day (MSCMD) LNG, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd., were likely to offload another 0.6 MSCMD from the end of this month, Mr. Jain said. Distribution of LNG as an auto fuel was likely to coincide with the supply of city gas distribution in Mangaluru, he added.
MRPL increases stake in ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd to 99.99 per cent

Plastic Park approved two days back: MP 2

Whether it is integrated plastic park having CIPET also sanctioned as integrated part of the package? Till now the central government or the state government did not allow economic agglomeration to happen in any other place than the parched city. They always put industry somewhere and training institute somewhere else. Why bodies like KCCI not raising their voice for CIPET?

Summa: Coastal Karnataka districts are expecting economic boom through blue economy. Blue economy policy is expected to give boost to ocean environment through sustainable exploitation of ocean assets covering areas like water transportation, marine tourism, marine biotechnology, seawater desalination plants, offshore oil & gas exploration, coastal roads, deepsea fisheries, cage culture, seaweed farming, offshore wind power plants, ship building & repair, waste management, marine biodiversity.

What about deep sea mining for minerals explored through GSI through environmentally sustainable technologies, SWAC, underwater data centres? Any engineering college working on underwater drones? I think once ICGA becomes functional it may hold underwater drone 2 competitions for students.

What are the possibilities of SWAC Electronics City, Finance City coming up in Mangaluru as a part of Kochi- Mangaluru industrial corridor 2. Even Coastal Wood along with cable channels may need a small Media City (forget film city). I think if Kerala adopts SWAC in Kochi- Mangaluru industrial corridor then technocrats hurried to World#1 tech hub will start crying why did they waste money on the parched city!

I hope KCCI and other industrial bodies of the region will now focus on Mangaluru getting 'Medical Devices Park' 1 2. I don't know why nobody from the region has approached Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on this. Even Udayavani news daily which talks on everything else has not published any article on this demand from the region! Now is also not late to raise voice for this and associated CIMDET (Central Institute of Medical Devices Engineering and Technology).

I think bodies like KCCI should focus more on Medical Devices Park which is decided by politicians rather than Tesla which is a private decision.

Jobs will be created through Plastic Park

Even the MLA is silent on CIPET! It was in talk for a long time - DK will get CIPET along with plastic park: Min 2. Now which government is hindering CIPET launch 3? Since it is renamed as Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology it has to be integrated with proposed Petroleum University in Surathkal along with IIPE.

Centre to sanction Rs 40 cr for Mangaluru Plastic Park, announces DVS

When the centre is going to release money for CIPET? Why Medical Devices Park is not proposed for Mangaluru? Is it because KCCI has not demanded for it?

'Shifting of RAF campus from Mangaluru to Bhadravati shows inefficiency of MP': Munir Katipalla

I think they wanted to locate RAF somewhere so to deploy troops across Karnataka swiftly. That is fine except that Hassan would have been a better place for movement of RAF troops to either Mangaluru or the parched city as highway is better. Other option was Davanagere for movement across north and south. Other disadvantage of location is it does not have an airport. Mostly the nepotist politician did it to secure his son's seat rather than to secure Karnataka. Obviosuly whoever laid foundation there are not patriots but selfish. But, what I think, might have stolen the idea of agglomeration from us by stealing central university. We have to continue demanding for 'Marine Forensics College' from the centre. Since we have an MP who is less useful to Tulundadu more useful to the parched city we may not even get this. And now we have got a minister also and let us whether he will serve Tulunadu or not.

Karnataka to get its first chocolate park
Quote:
However, since we were getting a lot of calls from the people to know more about chocolates, we decided to open the state’s first chocolate park. This park will not only give visitors a taste of chocolates but will also enhance their knowledge about their favourite treat. The chocolate park has been approved by the CAMPCO board and they are now scouting for consultants to execute it.

Kodgi said that currently, they are building a huge godown (to store cacao, arecanut and pepper) spread over 2.5 acres at a cost of Rs 30 crore while the chocolate park will cost Rs 3 to Rs 4 crore. The chocolate park will also have other features like artificial falls, a theme park and other facilities.
First chocolate park to come up in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka
Quote:
President of CAMPCO, Kishore Kumar Kodgi, said, “A lot of people go to places like Mahabaleshwar, Ooty and other places to experience the making of chocolate. We wanted to create something like that here in Karnataka. There’s a small hilltop nearby which is a popular tourist spot called Hanuman betta. On their way there, people can stop and take a look at the making of the chocolate, experiencing the taste of freshly made chocolate. Because of regulations placed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), we cannot entertain guests. Our main intention behind the creation of the park is to not only show people how chocolates are made but to give them a memorable journey.”

Adani Enterprises to spend Rs 50,000 crore on capex in 5 years; airport biz to get big chunk

Out of the Rs 35,780 crore capex for the airport business, the company intends to spend Rs 14,249 crore on the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports and about Rs 15,000 crore on the other six under its control.
That means a maximum spending of Rs 2,000 crores in five years timeline can be expected by Mangaluru but it could be even below Rs. 1,000 crores since Mangaluru was bidded lowest. But, we don't know whether developing Mangaluru airport fast and earning more is the strategy. For this to happen, other investments should also happen in Mangaluru quickly.

20 storage tanks to be built across Mangaluru to supply drinking water
Quote:
Mangaluru, Feb 11: Jalasiri Scheme, in order to supply modern technology-based drinking water to the residents of the city, is being implemented with the aid of ADB (Asian Development Bank) across 20 parts of the city.

Two huge, two-storey water storage tanks with a storage capacity of 10 lac liters will be constructed near Officers' Club of Ladyhill and at Bala. 35 cents land is identified to build storage tanks near Ladyhill. With the construction of this tank, the drinking water issues of the citizens of Chilimbi and Ashoknagar will be resolved. At Bala, the water storage tank is intended to be built on 75 cents land belonging to KUWSDB. Eight intermediate pumps will be constructed in different parts of the city in order to regulate continuous supply of drinking water to the residents of the city.

The proposed water storage tanks will be built near Nandigudda grounds, Udayanagara, Kodipadi, Nehru Maidan, Amritnagar at Tiruvailu, Shaktinagar (near the current GLSR), Maryhill (GLSR that is vacant now), Krishnapura (near government school), Morgans Gate (near Mangalore Club), Meenakaliya near Panambur, Cemetery at Kankanady Valencia, Kunjathbail, Santhoshnagar at Pacchanady, near NITK (near the tank that is already functioning), Nekkilagudda near Lohithnagara, Holyhill at Jayanagar, near J M Road at Bajal, Kana near Kulai, M V Shetty College near Kavoor and Kodikal.

Two water purifying plants will be set up at Thumbay. A new 20 MLD capacity water treatment plant and backwash treatment plant will be built at Ramalkatte near Thumbay vented dam. At present there are two water purifying plants of 80 MLD capacity that were built in 1971.

Huge amount of water is getting leaked at present when supplying water from Thumbay dam to the overhead tank. MCC officials failed to contain this leakage. Now it has been decided to install 181 bulk flow meters from Thumbay Jackwell to the overhead tank. This will help in tracking the exact areas of leakage. It will be assessed through the electronic device whether the same amount of water that is pumped from Thumbay reaches the overhead tank or not. Officials said that 96,300 water connections are identified in the city and there is an aim of upgrading the water distribution network also.

Addressing a virtual press conference on Friday, John Thomas, General Manager of Southern Railway, said that the work on the 19-km stretch of the railway line between Kankanadi and Panambur in Mangaluru will be completed by May.

The Union Budget for 2021-22 has allocated ₹40 crore for this project, he said.

Apart from this, the Railway Ministry has identified a 1.5-km stretch of the railway line between Mangaluru Central railway station and Netravathi bridge as the high-utilisation network. Track doubling work on this route will be completed by the end of February, he said. The Union Budget for 2021-22 has allocated ₹5 crore for this project.

Stating that steps have been taken to improve traffic facilities in Mangaluru, he said, “The Budget has made provision for a new 24-coach pit line at Mangaluru Central railway station in lieu of the existing 18-coach pit line. The project is likely to be completed by March 2022.”

Mangaluru was growing at least in one sector. Now the government wants to curtail that also. Why they compare everything here to the parched city? Does Mangaluru have unsustainable population like the parched city? Isn't it good if pupil move here and study so that at least floating population grows here? The government plan seems to be turn all rivers east wards, spoil western ghat instead of allowing the growth of coastal region to enable sustainable growth of Karnataka. At least allow city to grow to a population of around 20 lakhs before imposing such harnesses.

Strategy is to stop growth of Mangaluru and force educational entrepreneurs who what open medical colleges here to move to the parched region surrounding the parched city!

Instill culture of entrepreneurship in coastal region: T V Mohandas Pai
Quote:
A common platform in the form of a consortium of universities and other stakeholders should be developed. Conducting grand challenges through consortiums can create larger impacts. University courses must focus on developing high-quality skills and hands-on experiences, he said.

A structured implementation of these measures will result in more than ten unicorns from coastal Karnataka in the next ten years, Pai said. These measures will also ensure that youth of the region get employment in their place and are not forced to migrate to overcrowded metropolitan cities in search of a career, he said. Entrepreneurial units coming up n the region will also facilitate emergence of the coast as an economic hub, he noted.
Okay have 10 unicorns at the earliest. Let Karnataka government then bring a new rule saying no more than 10 unicorns in the parched city and Mangaluru to have balanced growth across Karnataka.

Don't worry. There will be enough opposition from vested interests against improving pedestrian facilities. But, instead of this underpass I would have prefered underpasses at Hampankatta, Jyothi circle, Bunts circle, PVS circle etc. Why this underpass prioritized over others needs an explanation. Anyway you can not blame the current government exclusively as it is continuing the proposal of the previous government.

So 1, DK MP has already switched over his loyalty to the parched city! He is happy that the parched city got everything and rest of Karnataka nothing from the central budget. He seems to be happy that due to metro the parched city will get more industries and more water will flow to the parched city stealing from everyone else and environment. Whether he is planning to contest from the parched city in next election like his predeccessor? This government should go we require a new party which loyal to Karnataka than the parched city.

MCC team to inspect land for IT Park at Bondel Junction
Quote:
The MCC will initiate the process of acquiring land from the owner of the land only if the team is satisfied that the land is suitable for the IT Park. A proposal to acquire 9.4 acres of private land for the purpose through TDR by the city corporation was mooted by Mangaluru City North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty. If the site was found suitable for the project, the MCC will send a proposal to the government for approval, said Mayor Diwakar.

MLA Bharath Shetty, in his proposal to MCC, had said, “About 9.4 acres of land, owned by Rohan Monteiro, was available on survey number 81-2 (p) and 81-3 (p) in Marakada village near Bondel Junction. The owner of the land has given approval for the acquisition of the land by providing transferable development rights (TDR).”
KEONICS Board gives approval to medium size IT Park in city
Quote:
Chairman of KEONICS Harikrishna Bantwal told The Hindu that following the approval of the board recently, KEONICS, on Wednesday, asked an agency to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the purpose. The agency authorities will inspect the project site on February 18 before finalising the report. It has been proposed to set up the park on 3.25 acres of land owned by KEONICS on public-private partnership (PPP) model.

“An investor has shown interest in developing the park,” he said.
Quote:
Innovation conclave

Mr. Bantwal said that as a measure to promote investments in the Mangaluru region, a Mangaluru Innovation Conclave, will be organised in the city on February 24 ...
Quote:
Mr. Bantwal, who is the 38th chairman of KEONICS, said that KEONICS has also plans to develop a large electronics city in Mangaluru in memory of R.K. Baliga, who was the first chairman of KEONICS and who set up Electronics City in Bengaluru. Late Baliga hailed from Bantwal. It might require about 40 acres at one place. Efforts are on to take this initiative forward.

New map for beach tourism expected to arrive in March
Quote:
If the map is made according to the new notification of 2019, it may benefit tourism and the fishermen of the coastal region. At present there is no provision to construct any structure on beaches. State government was objecting this fact as tourism cannot be developed for the same region. However, as soon as the new map arrives there will be opportunity to build certain structures in Goa style. Already 10 beaches including Someshwara, Panambur, Idya, Tannirbhavi, Surathkal, Sasihitlu and Bengre are notified and sent to the authority. There will be scope for development of these beaches once the new map.

Let us see how well these services (heli, seaplane, cruise, yacht services) will be integrated to Mangaluru airport terminal (& other proposed airport terminals), NMPT cruise terminal, other proposed cruise terminals (Old Port, Malpe, Karwar) and proposed Padukere Marina (and Mangaluru Marina under smart city? - Water Front Marina Development costing Rs 78 crore 3) to enable seamless transportation network of different modes. I hope there is now a plan to integrate old port cruise/marina lounge with proposed goods shed railway terminal lounge along with a mini bus terminal lounge.

310 km long coastal belt by seaplane proposal submitted to centre
Karnataka sends seaplane proposal to Centre
Quote:
A proposal for a tourist circuit to connect the state’s 320-km long coastal belt by seaplane has been submitted to the Centre, Minister for Tourism, Ecology and Environment C P Yogeeshwara said on Saturday.
Quote:
Yogeeshwara said that to promote tourism in the coastal belt, infrastructure for landing of yachts needs to be developed.
Quote:
Yogeeshwara said that to promote tourism in the coastal belt, infrastructure for landing of yachts needs to be developed. He said a heli tourism service will be launched in Mysuru shortly and stressed on a similar service in Mangaluru for foreign tourists arriving by cruise ships so that they can visit Lakshadweep and other tourist destinations from Mangaluru.

“Cruise passengers stay only for eight to nine hours in Mangaluru. If their stay is extended to two to three days by providing them with facilities, then we can chalk out programmes to introduce local culture and tourist spots in and around Mangaluru,” he said.

He said relaxation of CRZ rules will be sought on the lines of Kerala and Goa to promote tourism. Further, he said tax on tourist taxis was high in Karnataka compared to Kerala and Tamil Nadu. “I will bring the issue to notice of the chief minister,” he said. The minister said the Tourism Policy 2020 will be implemented from April.

He said backwaters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be used to promote sports which in turn will generate jobs and boost tourism. The 20-km stretch of Gurupura river backwaters will be developed on the lines of Alappuzha in Kerala. Priority will be given for promotion of eco tourism in Tannirbavi in Mangaluru. He said the government needs to promote Mangaluru as a brand and explore the potential in health tourism, religious tourism, eco tourism and local tourism.

“We need to develop a circuit to promote temple tourism in the district,” he said.
"infrastructure for landing of yachts" is already proposed under Smart City as Rs 78 crore Marina. Why nothing is done so far regarding it?
