The only way it would work is gobs and gobs of money and pressure. They could conceivably run the N extension along Ditmars east towards LGA. It would take a massive financial and political investment to get it done. If they keep it elevated, it would require the demolition of many buildings. It might make more sense to bury the tracks along 31st and then run a subway under Ditmars. Even then, it would be hugely expensive and politically complicated.
