Nice!!! Looks like you got around. Next time you're up here make sure to find parking near Memorial Drive in Cambridge and walk that as well as the Mass Ave Bridge.

Also check out Portland Maine, and if the season is right, Acadia!

Nice pictures! I wass in Nantucket, Newport, and Providence this summer myself. I had a beer at Or, The Whale (second Nantucket picture) just because of the name.

Man, these are fantastic! Especially your Providence and Newport pics, which we rarely get to enjoy here.

Is that Providence raw bar Hemenway's? Love that place. Best spicy calamari I've ever had.

Blue days, all of them gone
Nothin' but blue skies from now on…

Also check out Portland Maine, and if the season is right, Acadia!
Thanks! Will definitely check these spots out next time around.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!

That was actually Persimmon, and it was absolutely incredible. I'd highly recommend it to anyone in Providence. Will definitely have to check out Hemenway's next time around.

Boston is a gorgeous city and I really cannot explain why I've never spent any real time there.

I know foodies love oysters, but I can't even taste any. I never put an oyster into my mouth and never will. Why?
First, they smell like the sea. In French, we're used to say it smells like iodine, even though iodine has nothing to do with the smell of the sea. I don't really like that kind of smell anyway, because I'm not used to it.
Second, you have to swallow them alive. And I find it weird to eat alive creatures.
Third, when they're not fresh enough, they may cause you to go sick.
So... It's just not my type of food at all, even though most people find it sophisticated.

Otherwise, all of this is ok with me.

Raw oysters are really one of those hit-or-miss items people love or hate. I generally do badly with slimy, runny textures but I LOVE raw oysters.

And Massachusetts Bay has some of the top oyster beds in the world. You've got Galway Bay (Kelly oysters, the best raw oyster I've ever had), Bay of Biscay (Belons, which I'm sure you're familiar with!), Wingan Inlet (Sydney Rocks), Pudget Sound (Kumamotos), Long Island Sound (Bluepoints), and Massachusetts Bay / Gulf of Maine (Wellfleets and transplanted Belons from France in places like Pemaquid).

Raw Duxberys and Wellfleets go for a 1200+ yen a pop in Tokyo. Atlantic (and Kumamoto) oysters are nicer for raw bars than the other native Japanese varieties, which are too big and fleshy for a pleasant raw experience. On the flip side, these Japanese native varieties make much better fried oysters - kaki furai.

I've heard lots of good stuff about Persimmon, I've never had the chance. Looks fantastic.

And I'd be dropping the ball if I didn't drop a Pastiche plug into every Providence thread on this forum.

Best. Cannoli. On. The. East. Coast.

FABULOUS!!!!

To me, Boston is the most beautiful major city in the US. Newport is beyond spectacular, and Providence is AMAZING!!!

I honestly don't understand the fascination with the Sunbelt. Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, etc. all are so lame compared to these historic, Northeastern gems.

Have either of you ever eaten at Al Forno's? I want to try their grilled pizzas, but getting one to go (on my way to Cape Cod) is too much trouble.
