Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched GHTC-India(Global Housing Technology Challenge-India) which aims to get globally acclaimed, alternate and proven construction technologies for speedier and cost-effective construction of affordable housing.

- Light House Projects (LHP) shall mean a model/real housing project with about 1,000 houses built with alternate technology suitable to the geo-climatic and hazard conditions of the region. This will demonstrate and deliver ready to live -in houses with speed, economy and with better quality of construction in a sustainable manner. The minimum size of houses constructed under LHPs shall be up to 30 Square Meters carpet area in accordance with the prevailing guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban. It will act as a live laboratory for all stakeholders to learn about different aspects of new technology. --- Each LHP will also include on-site infrastructure development such as internal roads, pathways, common green area, boundary wall, water supply, sewerage, drainage, rain water harvesting, solar lighting, external electrification, etc. Cluster design may include an innovative system of water supply and drainage, renewable energy sources with special focus on solar energy.

All residential buildings under LHPs shall be built only with the alternate technologies listed in the Request for Proposal (RFP) document. The alternate & innovative technologies are technologies replacing conventional construction technologies such as:

• Load bearing masonry building, i.e., walls built with masonry made of brick, cement concrete solid, hollow blocks and any other masonry, and with roof made of RC.

• Cast in-situ RC frame building with masonry infill walls and cast in-situ RC slab.
