I'm happy for Edmonton and Calgary. Alberta should be fortunate to have two great cities who have a huge impact in Canada/North America. No competition people

Let's show some love! We must not be beaten >=)

I thought I'd bump this to see if the front page could be updated for those who do not frequent the Edmonton forum in BC/AB. There are a lot of new projects, new constructions, and some on this list are already built, cancelled, rumoured, or don't have enough info as there currently is. Cold, maybe just post a copy of 240's version, or maybe a new thread? I don't know.

For those who DON'T frequent ,here is a more updated list: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...61&postcount=1

Edmonton - A city on the way up.

It has been a long time since this thread has had any meaningful discussion but it is time for Edmonton be a topic of discussion. The Center Airport is closed so there is no longer a height restriction. The new downtown arena has sparked a great deal of high rise construction in the area. Edmonton is now a place to watch.

EDMONTON ARENA DISTRICT JOINT VENTURE ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION OF EDMONTON’S TALLEST TOWER

Quote:
EDMONTON (Aug. 26, 2014) – The Edmonton Arena District (EAD) joint venture, between Katz Group and WAM Development Group, announced today the construction of Edmonton’s newest and tallest tower and one of the tallest structures in Western Canada. The new 62-storey tower will be located in the Edmonton Arena District on the corner of 102 street and 103 Avenue with Stantec as the anchor tenant.

Designed to be a LEED Gold Certified building, this mixed-use office, retail and residential project will span approximately one million square feet. The 746 feet high (224 metres) tower, which will host 26 storeys of offices and close to 320 residential units, will be one of the largest mixed use buildings in Western Canada. Construction will begin this fall and the building is scheduled to open in summer 2018. The iconic architecture and innovative design of the new tower will be a significant addition to the Edmonton Arena District and will help elevate and revitalize Edmonton’s downtown core.

Delta to partner in new highrise.

New hotel unveiled for Edmonton arena district

Edmonton, AB, Canada / iNews880

October 06, 2014 01:13 pm

Long rumoured, the Edmonton Arena District Joint Venture has now confirmed a new hotel downtown. Twenty-six storeys with 362 guest rooms, with condos on top to take the project to more than 50 storeys. It will be run by Delta Hotels.

“I know it will be the best property in Edmonton,” says Delta CEO Ken Greene. “I think Edmonton is looking for a product of this nature. This will be far superior to anything that’s in the marketplace. The design is fabulous, it will be new construction, and of course new construction always is a big benefit to a hotel.”

One of the selling features of this new hotel is that you won’t even have to put on a coat to walk from your room to the rink.

“The building will be pedway-connected into the city office building, it will be pedway-connected into the Stantec office building, and it will be pedway-connected into the winter garden, which will allow people direct access into the arena itself, right from the Delta,” says Darren Durstling, the CEO of WAM Developments.

It’s the first new major hotel in 30 years for downtown Edmonton, and Delta thinks it’s about time.

“Edmonton is one of those marketplaces that is tremendously booming so the demographics (are) obviously there,” adds Greene. “We drive more reservations into this market than anywhere else through our reservation system, so that certainly is an indicator that we want to have more presence.”

Construction will start in 2015 for an opening in 2018. (sj, bd)

Checking In With Edmonton's Ice District

Quote:
A major mixed-use redevelopment is transforming a 25-acre-plus tract of downtown Edmonton. Bounded by 101 and 104 Streets NW, and 105 and 103 Avenues NW, Ice District will add several new towers and a major sporting and cultural institution to the city, all within steps of the newly opened Metro Line of the Edmonton LRT.

Vision 2020 Imagines Lively Future for Northlands

Quote:
Vision 2020 completely re-imagines how Northlands could look in a future without the Oilers or horse racing. The plan looks to draw in even more activity and events through the creation of an ice tournament centre, an urban festival site connected to nearby Borden Park, and a new concert and events venue inside the Expo Centre.

In a design collaboration between BBB Architects and Dialog Architects, the Ice Coliseum repurposes Rexall Place and divides it into seven ice sheets for community and tournament use, including curling and minor hockey, with the goal of helping to make Edmonton the tournament capital of Canada.

Downtown Edmonton construction making it ‘almost impossible to operate a business’: DBA
Aug 4, 2021
Global News Excerpt

Edmonton’s downtown is supposed to be on the path of recovery, but detours, road closures and a sea of orange signs are deterring some customers from even entering many businesses.

The latest construction challenge comes after the COVID-19 pandemic already shut down many businesses.

“It’s project on top of project on top of project,” said Puneeta McBryan, executive director of the Downtown Business Association.

She says overlapping projects — like Reimagine Jasper Ave, Valley Line LRT and Epcor work — mean many spots are simply in survival mode.

“When you’ve got multiple projects concentrated in the same locations, it becomes really, really challenging for residents and businesses.”
