The main east and west entrances from street level have opened as well as the north-east pedestrian plaza is accessible to general foot traffic.

Most of the stores within the Oculus opened yesterday (8/16). Looks like we're in the final stretch before this project is completed! A run down of remaining work (off the top of my head):

- Complete final PATH platform
- Complete PATH transit hall
- Cortlandt Street 1 train station (w/ street entrances along Greenwich St)
- Westfield mall in base of 3 WTC

I know this thing ^^^ hasn't been the most popular project, but seeing those pictures made my jaw drop. I think it's an amazing structure.

Took a stroll through there for the first time since the stores opened this past weekend (PATH doing lighting changes forcing all those tourists to take the train to WTC/Mall to get to NYC on the weekend. How convenient!)

I also do not get all the negativity regarding this structure. It looks pretty damn good in person, and the thing isn't even complete yet. The only thing I wish is that they had more visible signage showing directions to the subway lines.

I think the negativity is more around the high costs, the endless delays, and the currently more limited functionality (was originally planned to include service to JFK).

But in terms of appearance, I don't think too many people will complain. If there's a better-looking modern rail transportation terminal anywhere on earth, I'd like to see it. I just think it needs to get the rail to JFK, but that would probably cost megabillions and 10 years extra (they would have to build a whole other subconcourse and platform level).

In any case, it's fine, for now. Glad it's almost done.

What's the rail to JFK? An extension of LIRR and AirTrain along the LIRR corridor to Atlantic Yards and then into WTC? That would have been great.

Disappointed there wasn't at least a shell of a station to accommodate any future service.

i took a walk thru just after the shops opened and it seems it will do ok. the shops seem to be geared a bit toward commuters, so its somewhat reminiscent and in the spirit of the old wtc shops. eataly is open, although a bit hard to find, and a duane reade and an h&m are on the way.

in comparison, the brookfield mall just to the west in the wfc looks forelorn. however, i believe its not done yet either and more shops will open. le district food hall seems to be a big hit tho.

It's a mix unlike the World Financial Center. Some stores at the WTC are for the upper class, and some for the average commuter.

I don't think there could be a more aesthetically perfect building for an Apple store.

And it looks like all that marble damage, other than the chip, could be washed/buffed out (not sure how porous that marble is). Looks like some rust runoff.

nit-picky, but I think it's super annoying that whoever designed the lights in this space didn't ensure consistency. It's less noticeable in person, but as you can see in Corey's photos above, the main Oculus, mall hallways, PATH hall, west st hallway, and the retail stores themselves all have different color temperature lights. Some look pink, some look blue, some look yellow. Why they couldn't settle on one temp and stick with it throughout is beyond me.
