Unless you like trains, of course

I quite like the green strip, actually. The tree layer is thick enough that it should prevent most of the noise pollution, especially since the tracks are entrenched, and you can't go wrong with more parklands

Rail fan? I sometimes used to watch them from the foot bridge at Spring Gardens Rd. (when I lived in Burlington I'd often sit at Spencer Smith and watch the ships coming in and out of the harbour too; sometimes I'd walk right to the channel if I saw one coming in from the lake).

I think keeping it as a park would be the best idea too. Maybe widen the sidewalk into a proper multi-use pathway that would connect to the HHS campus. The city could even create another one heading north along Wellington (it's old but cleared industrial land... I'd like to see it used for something productive someday, but no reason a path can't be in the mix). They'd have to improve the sidewalk at Burlington St., but a connection right to Eastwood and then Pier 8 would make a really great looping trail system.

It was. As it abuts the GO station, it wouldn't hurt to use some of that space for bus bays. If GO Transit brings all-day train service to West Harbour, the three bus bays inside the station grounds are not going to be sufficient.

A playground with climbing structures and swings and slides and such has been installed at Pier 8 Promenade Park. Construction has also started on the farthest east side of what is called "Hammer Harbour." They have begun installation of the Gantry Pavilion. That is the yellow truss-like or crane-like section with the stage and amphitheatre.

Nice! Perhaps I'll bike over sometime this week on a lunch break and grab some photos when the weather is nice.

I love the rusted steel, it looks exactly like the renders! This is coming along so quickly, we should be enjoying some of this by summer! Thanks for the photos @TheRitsman

I don't know if it'll be walkable mid-summer, it's looking that way. But he responded to me on Instagram saying end of summer they should be fully done.

Looks like they're pretty much done the metal structure. They've even installed the large "8" to the structure denoting the number of the Pier.

Just to clarify, those are not functional cranes, right? It's art?

If so, it is certainly an attention-grabber. Attractive in a post-industrial way. But they do kind of loom over the property somewhat. Does it hang over the promenade that surrounds the pier? I'll have to see it in person but I'm not sure how comfortable a feeling it might be to walk under those cranes.

Either way, it's great to see progress down at the pier. Most exciting project in the City in years.
